Purpose:The aim of our study is to entirely collect the relevant evidence and to determine the association between the expression level of ATM and prognosis of patients with cancer. Methods:Research were identified through a comprehensively search of the Pub Med and Web of Science database up to August,2016.The pooled Hazard ratios(HRs)with corresponding 95% confidence intervals(CIs)were calculated to evaluate the association between the expression level of ATM and prognosis of patients with cancer. Results:Base on 11 studies with the overall survival(OS)as the study endpoint, and there were ultimately included 4221 sample content in this meta-analysis.Meta-analysis showed that there was no significant correlation between the expression of ATM and OS in patients with malignant tumors(HR=0.91,95%CI:0.70-1.17,P=0.46).Subgroup analysis showed that the expression level of ATM in adenocarcinoma patients was significantly correlated with OS(HR=0.78,95% CI:0.64-0.96,P=0.02).In another words, patients with high ATM expression had a longer overall survival than patients with low ATM expression in adenocarcinoma patients.Based on 5 cohort studies with disease free survival(DFS)as the study end point,a total of 1709 samples were collected. The results showed that there was no significant correlationbetween the expression level of ATM and DFS in patients with malignant tumors(HR=0.68,95%CI: 0.41-1.11,P=0.12).The expression level of ATM was significantly correlated with DFS in patients with adenocarcinoma(HR=0.0.57,95%CI: 0.44-0.74,P<0.0001).Therefore,in adenocarcinoma patients with high expression level of ATM had a longer disease-free survival than patients with low expression level of ATM.A total of 903 samples were collected from 5 cohort studies with DFS as the study endpoint.the results showed that the expression level of ATM was significantly correlated with disease specific survival(DSS)in tumor patients(HR=0.42,95%CI:0.21-0.84,P=0.01).Patients with high expression of ATM had a longer disease-specific survival time than patients with low expression of ATM.Conclusion:There is a correlation between ATM expression level and prognosis in patients with malignant tumor.Patients with high ATM expression had a longer OS and DFS than patients with low ATM expression in adenocarcinoma. The disease-specific survival time of patients with high expression of ATM was longer.
