Application Of Z-plasty In Medial Epicanthoplasty Of Single Eyelid Patients

Objective: To summarize the experience of applying Z-plasty in the correction of medial canthus with single eyelid patients.Methods: Single eyelid twelve patients with medial canthus were treated with Z-plasty with resection of orbicularis oculi muscle,subcutaneous tissue and fibrous tissue,and accompanying double eyelid surgery.Total 12 patients with different degrees of medial canthus were corrected by this method from September 2013 to September 2016.Evaluation criteria: Evaluation from the satisfaction of the patients,aesthetic standard features,postoperative effects and scarring.Results: All patients were followed up for 3~12 months.All patients got satisfied results.After 1 month of post operation,3 cases occurred skin redness at the medial canthus region.However,they gradually disappeared at 3 months.Grades of symmetry were good in all patient except 2 patients.In 2 patients,there are unequal result between left and right epicanthus but they accepted and no complaint it.Conclusion: The use of Z-plasty in the correction of the medial epicanthus is a good method.It has the advantages of simple design,easy operation method,good medial canthus appearance formation,and invisible scar.
