Objective: This study was to investigate the association between hemorrhoids and atherosclerosis by a case-control study in order to provide valuable reference for clinical prediction and treatment of atherosclerosis by analysising the difference of the level of blood lipids, arterial stiffness index and the level of inflammatory factors between hemorrhoids patients and healthy people to investigate whether hemorrhoids may be the new risk factors of atherosclerotic disease. Methods : 48 hemorrhoids patients were selected from the hemorrhoid fistula department in Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University from April 1,2016 to January 30,2017,including 31 males and 17 females, age range 20-60 years old, average age 41.1±9.9 years old, were included in the Hemorrhoids observation group after informed consent;26 healthy people were selected from the health examination center from April 1,2016 to January 30,2017,including 16 males and 10 females, age range of 20-60 years old, average age 40.7±11.7 years old, were included in the Healthy control group after informed consent.Test the total cholesterol(TC),high density lipoprotein(HDL-C),glucose(GLU),low density lipoprotein(LDL-C),white blood cells(WBC),mononuclear cells, uric acid(UA)of two groups, and ELISA method test interleukin-6(IL-6),monocyte chemotactic factor-1(MCP-1),C-reactive protein(CRP),tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-alpha),matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9)of two groups;analyze the difference between the two groups of data by statistical methods in order to investigate the association between hemorrhoids and atherosclerosis. Results: 1)Biochemical makers:levels of LDL-C?TG?TC were higher in the observation group than the control group, the difference was significant(p<0.05).2)Atherosclerosis index: levels of PWV?IMT were higher in the observation group than the control group, the difference was significant(p<0.05).3)Inflammatory factors: levels of IL-6?TNF-??MMP-9?MCP-1 were higher in the observation group than the control group, the difference was significant(p<0.05).Conclusion: 1)The levels of IL-6,MCP-1,TNF-? and MMP-9 were increased in hemorrhoids patients, which indicated that there was a chronic inflammatory state in hemorrhoids patients.2)The chronic inflammatory state caused by hemorrhoids may be a risk factor of atherosclerosis.
