Objective:Lung cancer remains the most common cancer resulting in the leading cause of cancer death among men and the second among women worldwide.Approximately 80%of the lung cancer are non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC)by histology, which includes squamous cell carcinoma(SCCA),adenocarcinoma(ADCA),large-cell carcinoma and bronchoalveolar cell carcinoma. Therefore,we evaluated the clinical features and the long-time survival of 103 NSCLC patients who received thoracoscopic radical resection to develop better understanding of treatment of NSCLC.Methods:This retrospective study was performed at the First Affiliated Hospital with Nanjing medical university,Nanjing.103 patients diagnosed with stage ?-?NSCLC and underwent thoracoscopic radical resection between 2010 and 2011 were included.Stage was recorded based on the eighth edition of the TNM Classifiation for Lung Cancer,International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer(IASLC).Characteristics of the 103 patients were reviewed retrospectively, including presence of symptoms and complications, physical examination findings, operative records, and histology of disease. The long-term follow-up data were collected by telephone interview with patients or their relatives. The statistics were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier method and a multivariable Cox proportional hazard model.A two-tailed p value of less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results:The average age of the 103 patients was 61.5±9.4.Among these patients, adenocarcinoma occupied the highest proportion in all pathological types, which accounts for 60.2%.The median overall survival was 44 months and the 1,3 and 5 year of survival rates were 96.1%,77.0%and 67.3%respectively.The 1,3 and 5 year of survival rates of stage ? patients were 100%,91.7%and 76.0%respectively,which were better than stage ?(94.3%,71.4%and 62.5%respectively)and ?(93.3%,65.6%and 60.6%respectively).The 1,3 and 5 year of survival rates of patients with COPD were 94.1%,47.1%and 40.3%respectively,which presented worse survival rates than those without COPD(96.5%,86.0%and 72.6%respectively).The 1,3 and 5 year of survival rates of patients with left lung cancer were 93.0%,66.8%and 56.8%respectively,presented worse survival rates than those in right lung(98.3%,84.4%and 75.0%respectively).Conclusion:Long-term survival of the NSCLC patients is correlated with the presence of COPD and the tumor location, which can be used in the risk and benefit assessment when choosing treatment for NSCLC patients.
