Objective:To measure serum free fatty acid(FFA)and the multiple metabolic indexes, and to analyze the the distribution characteristics of FFA and its relationship with the different metabolic indexes in Korean-Chinese and Han nationality pupils of Yanbian area. Methods:By using a cluster sampling method,3,879 elementary school students(2,011 of Korean-Chinese and 1 868 of Han nationality)aged 8-12 years old were selected in 4 of primary schools from August,2010 and August,2012.All subjects knew the informed consent. At choosing the subjects, subjects who suffered from serious abnormal metabolic disorders and other ethnic and hybrid ethnic students were excluded in order to more accurately compare the differences between two ethnic groups.? Using the family visiting method, the relevant information was collected by the standardized questionnaire.?Physical examination was carried out in the early morning after 12 hour fasting, and the height(cm),weight(kg),circumference(WC,cm)and blood pressure were measured by using the standardized methods, and body mass index(BMI,kg/m2)was calculated.?Serum triglyceride(TG),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)and fasting blood glucose(FBG)were measured after 12 hour fasting by automatic biochemical analyzer.?The level of FFA was detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)and percentile(P25,P50 and P75)was calculated;the level of insulin(INS)was detected by radioimmunoassay, and the homeostasis model assessment(HOMA)method was used to estimate the human IR(HOMA-IR).? Data analysis was performed by SPSS 17.0 statistical software.Normal distribution measurement data were examined by t-test and analysis of GLM,the relationship between FFA and the different metabolic indexes was examined by Spearman and the partial correlate analysis.Results:(1)Adjusted by age,the level of FFA in Korean-Chinese and Han nationality male students was(22.10±1.68)?mol/L and(21.47±2.96)?mol/L,and that in female students was (22.03±1.67)?mol/L and(21.33±2.95)?mol/Land that in Korean-Chinese and Han nationality pupils of Yanbian area was(22.06± 1.67)?mol/L and(21.40±2.96)?mol/L,respectively,and the ethnic differences were significant(tboy?7.197,tgirl?8.218,ttota=10.852;all P?0.001).(2)The locus values of P25,P50 and P75 of FFA in Korean-Chinese nationality male students were 21.10,22.25 and 23.35,and that in Han nationality male students were 18.96,21.29 and 23.93,and the D-values of P25,P50 and P75 were 2.14,0.96 and-0.58,respectively;the locus values of P25,P50 and P75 of FFA in Korean-Chinese nationality female students were 20.86,22.02 and 23.35,and that in Han nationality female students were 18.74,21.18 and 24.04,and the D-values of P25.P50 and P75 were 2.12,0.84 and-0.69,respectively;the locus values of P25.P50 and P75 of FFA in Korean-Chinese nationality students were 20.98,22.14 and 23.35,and that in Han nationality students were 18.85,21.24 and 23.99,and the D-values of P25,Pso and P75 were 2.13,0.90 and-0.64,respectively.(3)The levels of BMI,WC,SBP,DBP,FBG,and HOMA-IR were progressively higher with the level of FFA in Korean-Chinese nationality students after adjustment for sex and age(FBMI?58.275,FWC?32.014,FSBP?18.102,FDBP=11.305,FFBG?3216.748 and FHOMA=84.974;all P<0.001).The levels of BMI,WC,SBP and TG(except for I group)were progressively higher with the level of FFA(FBMI=14.885,FWC?8.939,FSBP?4.917 and FTG?8.120;all P<0.01)and the level of HDL-C(except for i group)was progressively lower with the levels of FFA in Han nationality students after adjustment for sex and age.(4)Spearman correlate analysis showed FFA was positively related with BMI,WC,SBP,DBP,FBG and HOMA-IR(r?0.243,0.181,0.141,0.117,0.983 and 0.372;allP<0.001),and that was negatively related with HDL-C(r=-0.077,P<0.01)in Korean-Chinese nationality students;FFA was positively related with BMI,WC,SBP,FBG and HOMA-IR(r?0.102,0.085,0.054,0.050 and 0.049;all P<0.01),and that was negatively related with HDL-C(r?-0.055,P<0.01)in Han nationality students;FFA was positively related with BMI,WC,SBP,DBP,FBG and HOMA-IR(r=0.146,0.105,0.101,0.039,0.332 and 0.137;all P<0.01),and that was negatively related with HDL-C(r=-0.088,P<0.001)in elementary school students of Yanbian area.(5)The partial correlate analysis showed FFA was positively related with BMI,WC,SBP,DBP,FBG and HOMA-IR(r=0.261,0.196,0.133,0.115,0.982 and 0.344;allP<0.001),and that was negatively related with HDL-C(r?-0.056,P<0.05)in Korean-Chinese nationality students;FFA was positively related with BMI,WC,SBP and HOMA-IR(r?0.115,0.095,0.073 and 0.044;all P<0.01),and that was negatively related with HDL-C(r=-0.056,P<0.01)in Han nationality students;FFA was positively related with BMI,WC,SBP,DBP,FBG and HOMA-IR(r?0.146,0.116,0.084,0.034,0.277 and 0.118;all P<0.01),and that was negatively related with HDL-C(r?-0.055,P<0.001)in elementary school students of Yanbian area. Conclusion:There are significant differences in the distribution of FFA between two nationality pupils of Yanbian area;there are different association of FFA with the different different metabolic index, and there are significant nationality differences.
