Rectal cancer is a common malignant tumor in digestive system in China, and its incidence rate is only inferior to the one of gastric cancer, liver cancer and esophageal cancer. In recent years, with the aging of the population and the improvement of living standards, there is a trend of further increase in the number of rectal cancer patients, which has seriously affected people's health.Surgery is the only means to cure rectal cancer radically.Because the anatomical positions of rectum and ureteral are close, the ureter is very easy to damage in operations, coupled with other factors, such as in pathological stages, our patients in middle and advanced stages mainly, resulting in the invasion of tumors in the ureter for some patients; In terms of treatment, the application of re-operative adjuvant chemo-radiotherapy in middle and advanced rectal cancer leads to pelvic adhesion and edema in the side;in the part of surgeons, they may have insufficient preoperative preparation, are not familiar with pelvic anatomy and lack of experience or do improperly in surgeries; In recent years, the introduction of laparoscopic surgery and the increasing of patients with second surgery increase the chances to damage ureter and severely affect the postoperative rehabilitation of patients, which even endangers the lives of patients. Therefore,it is very important have the sufficient preoperative preparation. The related checks before operation, better understanding the locations of tumor and ureter,or using the ureteral stents through ureteroscope as the exploration mark can reduced the injury to the ureter. As for the patients whose ureter are damaged in operations,it should be check and diagnosed after the surgery, especially it is very key to discover and cure in the middle of operation and the early stage after operation, which not only reduces the delay of the diagnosis and avoids the long-term local stricture and fistula formation, also greatly reduces the postoperative psychological pressure and the cost of treatment. However, more careful doctors also cannot be free from delayed diagnosis of iatrogenic ureteral injury, and even lead to more serious consequences. So,this report discusses the cause analysis and countermeasures of rectal cancer surgery with ureteral injury through the looking up the related literature and my years' clinical experiences.
