Object: To study the management and effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical treatment for middle-aged patients with low risk hypertension in reginal workplaces through the hypertension standalized management project. Methods: The experimental group and control group were chose from two local enterprises in the same area through cluster sampling. All patients were low-risk hypertension patients born in January 1960 to December 1993. Baseline survey included the basic information of the patients, height, weight, waist circumference, body mass index(BMI). Also included related laboratory tests(serum creatinine, fasting blood-glucose, triglyceride, total cholesterol), eating habits, physical exercises, smoking and drinking situation, psychological situation within the recent 1 month. The non-pharmaceutical treatment were given to both groups included weight control, low salt and fat diet, adjusting dietary proportion, physical exercises, quit smoking and alcohol, and proper psychological guidance. The experimental group was given a standalized two-year regular follow-up by local medical staff. The control group was only given a baseline investigation and the last follow-up after 2 years. Each follow-up included instant blood pressure, eating habits, exercise condition, smoking and drinking situation, psychological status, and high blood pressure education. Using Epidata3.1,SPSS22 and WPS2013 Excel for data antry and analysis, when P<0.05, the difference was statistically significant. Results: At baseline, the systolic blood pressure of experimental group was140±10mm Hg, diastolic blood pressure was 88±8mm Hg. After a 2-year follow-up of standalized non-pharmaceutical treatment, the systolic and diastolic blood pressure were 131±6mm Hg and 79±5mm Hg(P<0.05). At baseline, the systolic blood pressure of control group was 150±12mm Hg, diastolic blood pressure was 95±10mm Hg. No significant changes were found in blood pressure level. Both groups had no significant changes in body weight, waist circumference and body mass index(BMI)(P>0.05). In laboratory tests, the two groups had no obvious changes in serum creatinine(P>0.05).After 2 years, the fasting blood glucose, triglyceride and total cholesterol of experimental group had significantly decreased(P<0.001), while significantly increased in the control group(P<0.05). The diet condition of experimental group had improved after the 2-year follow-up(P<0.05), while the control group had no change. And the situation of physical activities also improved in experimental group(P=0.002),the control group had no significant changes(P>0.05). The smoking situation had no changes in both groups(P>0.05), while the drinking situation slightly improved in experimental group(P=0.007). The number of psychological stressed individuals declined after 1 years in experimental group(P=0.02).Conclusion: Standalized non-pharmaceutical treatment plays an important and positive role in essential hypertension management. Not only to be used alone in mild-to-moderate hypertension, but also it is important as an adjuvant treatment in standalized pharmaceutical treatment. For the treatment of a special type of hypertension as “workplace hypertension”, standalized non-pharmaceutical treatment should be the primary treatment. In the same time, during the process of implementation of non-pharmaceutical treatment, it must also follow the principle of "individualization". In order to reach the maximum efficacy of non-pharmaceutical treatment, it should develop towards a more scientific and specific direction.
