Clinical Observation Of Dry Eye After Cataract Phacoemulsification Treated With Pyonex

Objective: Observe the therapeutic effect of dry eye after cataract phacoemulsification treated with pyonex,evaluating its effectiveness and to explore the mechanism.Methods: There are 137patients(137eyes)with age-related cataract who undergo surgery in Department of Ophthalmology,Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine,randomly dividing into test group 1,test group 2 and control group.All patients underwent phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation,and 24 cases were excluded according to the same inclusion and exclusion criteria 1 weeks after operations,11 cases were lost during the treatment,there were only102 patients(102 eyes)in the statistical analysis finally.The test group: 1 pyonex;test group 2: pyonex combined with Polyethylene Glycol Eye Drops;control group:Polyethylene Glycol Eye Drops.Course of treatment: 3 weeks.Record the ocular symptoms(dryness,foreign body sensation,burning sensation,visual fluctuation,visual fatigue,redness,tingling,eye itching,photophobia)and objective indicators(tear break-up time,tear secretion test,corneal fluorescent staining)before the surgery,before and after treatment.Results:(1)Before surgery,there were no statistical significance in general data(sex,age,degree of relaxation of bulbar conjunctiva and meibomian gland obstruction),along with therapeutic indexes among three groups(all P > 0.05),so they were comparable.(2)One weeks after cataract surgery,tear break-up time,schirmer I test,corneal fluorescein staining and ocular symptoms got worse and were statistically significant compared with preoperation in difference(P< 0.01,P< 0.05,P< 0.01,P<0.01).And the numbers of dissatisfying the diagnostic code of dry eye balanced,all differences were not significant among the three groups after surgery(all P> 0.05),and they were comparable also.(3)After the treatment,tear break-up time,schirmer I test,corneal fluorescein staining and ocular symptoms got better compared with that before treatment,with significant differences(P< 0.01,P< 0.05,P< 0.01,P< 0.01).At the same time,after the treatment,all of the therapeutic indexes in test group 1 werestatistically significant compared with preoperation(all P< 0.01);In test group 2,the difference in corneal fluorescein staining score was statistically significant compared with preoperation(P< 0.01),other indexes were not statistically different(all P> 0.05);the difference of corneal fluorescein staining score in the control group was not statistically significant compared with preoperation(P > 0.05),other indexes were statistically significant(all P < 0.01).(4)After treatment,there were significant differences among the three groups in all therapeutic indexes(all P< 0.05).(5)The single using of pyonex was statistically different from the improvement of those syndromes including dryness,burning sensation,asthenopia and tingling compared with that before treatment(P< 0.05,P< 0.01,P< 0.05,P< 0.01).(6)The overall efficacy:The excellent rate of test group 1 is 11.42%,30.30% for test group 2 and 14.71% for the control group after treatment;the effective rate of test group 1 is 60.00%,60.61% for test group 2 and 58.82% for the control group after treatment;the total effective rate of test group 1 is 71.43 %,90.91 % for test group 1 and 73.53%for the control group after treatment.Three groups was pairwise comparison after the treatment,the effect of test 2group was significantly better than test 1 group(P< 0.05),the effect of test group 1 was not statistically different from control group(P> 0.05),the effect of test 2 group was significantly better than control group(P< 0.05).In conclusion,test group 2 was best.Conclusion: Pyonex have exact effect on dry eye after cataract phacoemulsification,improving symptoms and signs of dry eye especially in these symdromes in dryness,burning sensation,asthenopia and tingling sensation.Pyonex combined with Polyethylene Glycol Eye Drops have advantages over using them separately,and can be used as a effective treatment for dry eye after cataract phacoemulsification.
