Objective:We assessed the risk factors of stroke-associated pneumonia and explored the early predictive value of lymphocytopenia in stroke-associated pneumonia so as to early prevent or identify stroke-associated pneumonia.Methods:37 consecutive stroke patients with pneumonia were included in this prospective case-control study, with 84 cases as a control. We conducted an analysis about the associated risk factors of stroke-associated pneumonia by comparing the significant difference between two group interested patients. In addition, the comparison in lymphocyte level between two groups was also performed to determine the predictive value of lymphocyte counts for stroke-associated pneumonia. Results:Infection group more likely had a significant lower lymphocyte counts((1.03±0.56)*109)than non-infection group((1.31±0.57)*109)with a significant difference(P=0.017).Moreover,there are 22 patients(59.5%)had a decreased lymphocyte counts in infection group, whereas only 32 patients(38.1%)in non-infection group.Infection group are prone to occurring the reduction of lymphocyte counts(P=0.029),however,it did not significantly differ between two group when further correction of confounding factors was conducted. Conclusion:The present study showed that lymphocytopenia was associated with stroke-associated pneumonia, but was not an independent predictor of stroke-associated pneumonia.
