Objective: to systematically review the levels of serum and CSF zinc in children with febrile seizures and related control groups. Methods: Pubmed,EMBASE,Cochrane Library,CNKI,VIP,Wang,Fang,CBM retrieval system, retrieval time was up to February 10,2018,to find out about the controlled trials of febrile seizures and zinc related cases,by two researchers according to the unified standard independently screened literature, and traces of literature reference. Then meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software. Results: 17 studies were included.16 studies are about the level of serum zinc.5 studies about CSF zinc,4 studies is about both level of serum zinc and CSF zinc.2144 researchers are objected.META analysis results are as follows:1.The level of serum zinc in children with febrile seizures is lower than normal children(SMD= 1.21,P= 0.0006;95%CI:-1.9-0.52);2.The level of serum zinc in children with febrile seizures is lower than children with fever without convulsion(SMD= 1.32,P=0.002;95%CI:-1.32,-0.49);3.The level of serum zinc in children with febrile seizures is lower than children with afebrile seizures(SMD= 1.66,P=0.01;95%CI: 2.93,0.40);4.The level of serum zinc in children with fever without convulsion is lower than normal children(SMD=0.24,P=0.05;95%CI: 0.00,0.48);5.The level of serum zinc in normal children is similar to children with afebrile seizure(SMD=-0.23,P=0.29;95%CI: 0.65,0.20).7.the level of CSF zinc in children with febrile seizures is lower than children with fever without convulsion(SMD= 4.55,P=0.01;95%CI:-8.02,-1.08);7.The level of CSF zinc in children with febrile seizures is lower than children with afebrile seizures(SMD=1.95,P=0.19;95%CI: 4.87,0.97);Conclusion: 1.The serum zinc levels in children with febrile seizures were lower than those of normal children, fever children and children without febrile convulsion, and all of them were statistically significant. Therefore, the decrease of serum zinc level was a promoting factor for the occurrence of febrile convulsion.2.Similarly,the decrease of zinc level in cerebrospinal fluid may increase the risk of febrile seizures.3.Fever can lead to the decrease of serum zinc level in children. The decrease of serum zinc level(zinc deficiency)may increase the risk of infection in children.4.As for children with high risk of febrile seizures,it is suggested that the level of serum zinc should be detected. If there is a reduction, zinc can be considered properly on the basis of adjusting the diet structure.5.Due to the limitations of this study,we need to further develop a more standardized and scientific research method, carry out a multi center study, increase the sample size, and combine basic and clinical studies,so as to clarify the effect mechanism of serum and CSF zinc levels on the onset and recurrence of febrile convulsions, and provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of febrile convulsions.
