Objective:To retrospective analysis the clinical characteristics of postinfectious cough in adults and evaluate the efficacy and safety of Tiotropium in the treatment. Methods:In this retrospective studies,non-smoking adults aged 14-80 years with postinfectious cough of 3 weeks to 1 year'duration were recruited.Recorded participants' date of birth, sex, duration of cough, self administered drugs for cough, and household smoking status on study entry(day 0).Participants were also asked if they had experienced pharyngeal itching or sputum symptoms since their cough started. Each participant was asked to rate how bothersome their symptoms had been on a 10 mm visual analogue scale(VAS;0=not at all bothersome,10=extremely bothersome). All participants were asked to take one tiotropium capsule daily from days 1 to 7 and avoid taking self-administered treatment for cough,At baseline,3 days,7 days, participants were asked to complete the Leicester Cough Questionnaire(LCQ).The range of possible LCQ total scores is from 3 to21,with a higher score indicating a better cough specific quality of life. After the fist treatment duration, patients can chose whether to continue study drug for another 4 days. The data were analyzed by variance analysis,chi-square test and so on,P < 0.05 was statistically significant difference.Results:(1)we were selected into the group of patients in 65 cases, the average age is(42.95 ±12.6)years,Including 22 cases of male,female43 cases;(2)Most of the patients were accompanied with symptoms such as pharynx itching, expectoration, suffocating, etc. The proportion of pharynx itching was 64.62%,expectoration was 24.2%.(3)At baseline,VAS scores(5.34±1.61),LCQ total scores(10.77±2.66),LCQ psychological domain score(3.09±1.33),LCQ physiological domain score(4.19±1.21),LCQ social domain score(3.48±1.55),reported severe impairment in cough-specific quality of life based on LCQ total scores.(4)At baseline, the VAS scores and LCQ total scores between Fe NO subgroup, age subgroup, sex subgroup, pharynx itching subgroup and expectoration subgroup has no statistically significant difference?(5)The mean difference between baseline with 3 days was statistically significant, and the mean difference between baseline with 7days was also statistically significant.(6)Analysis of each group:the mean between-group difference in baseline and 3 days was no statistically significant, the mean between-group difference in baseline and 7 days was also no statistically significant?(7)The patients who improved their cough symptoms with tiotropium for 3 days continued to use the drug until 7 days the symptoms were further improved.Conversely, patients with no significant reduction in cough symptoms for 3 days continued to use the drug until 7 days, the cough symptoms did not improve significantly.however,The phenomenon has still not found a reasonable explanation.Conclusion:(1)The patients with postinfectious cough were reported severe impairment in cough-specific quality of life based on LCQ total scores and VAS scores. There was no difference between the Fe NO subgroup, age subgroup, sex subgroup, pharynx itching subgroup and expectoration subgroup.(2)The total effective rate of tiotropium in the treatment of post-infection cough was 63.08%.The treatment effect is not correlated with sex, age, pharynx itching, expectoration and Fe NO concentration.(3)The patients who improved their cough symptoms with tiotropium for 3 days continued to use the drug until 7 days the symptomswere further improved.Conversely, patients with no significant reduction in cough symptoms for 3 days continued to use the drug until 7 days, the cough symptoms did not improve significantly.
