| Objective:To investigate the relationship between serum thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH)and metabolic syndrome(MS),its components in Uygur population with normal thyroid function. Methods: A total of 2654 Uigurs residents,1844 Uyghur thyroid functionally healthy residents, were selected with a cross-sectional and cluster sampling method from Tianshan,Urumqi and Toksun districts of Turpan during September to December 2015.All of them filled the questionnaire and their height, weight, blood lipids, blood glucose, blood pressure, thyroid function and other indicators were measured. And they were divided into three groups: low TSH group(0.27~1.54)m IU/L,middle TSH group(1.55~2.41)m IU/L and high TSH group(2.42~4.20)mIU/L according to different TSH levels. The relationship between different TSH levels within the normal range and MS morbidity, the components of MS were analyzed. Results: The prevalence of MS was19.2%(354/1844),The body mass index(BMI),free thyroxine(FT4),and TSH levels in MS were significantly higher than non-ms;The levels of BMI,systolic blood pressure(SP),total cholesterol(TC)and triglyceride(TG)in high TSH group were significantly higher than that in low TSH group. After adjusting age and sex,the differences between TSH levels and BMI,SP still showed statistically significant differences(P<0.05),and The morbidity of high TSH group was significantly higher than that of low TSH group[(3.09±0.49)% vs.(1.08±0.32)%].The results demonstrated that overweight and/or obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and MS showed a increase with the rise of TSH levels after dividing the normal range by tertiles(P<0.05).When comparing the lowest and highest tertile for TSH,the former group demonstrated a 1.278,1.163,2.140,2.256 fold increases in overweight and/or obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and MS prevalence, respectively, after adjusting age and sex.But there was no significant difference in blood glucose. In the multivariate analysis of MS,TSH and FT4 were important risk factors for MS(OR=1.613,95%CI: 1.413-1.842;OR=1.367;95%CI: 1.245-1.500).Conclusions: Higher levels of TSH in normal range increase the risk of developing MS.Thus, early TSH screening is of great significance for the prevention of MS. |
