Objective:The contralateral normal hip joint usually used as the reference standards of pathology hip in preoperative planning and postoperation assessment of hip arthroplasty. However, this is measured on the assumption that there is no significant difference in themorphology of the bilateral hip joints. But,a previous study reported there were some difference in the morphology of the bilateral hip joints, that's raises ppugn about our routine. There are many measurements and evaluation of hip morphology in our country, but few studies on the symmetry of bilateral hip joint morphology. Therefore,we measured several parameters that has guiding significance for preoperative planning and postoperation assessment of hip arthroplasty by using the picture archiving and communication system(picture archiving and communication system,PACS),and analyzing the data by using SPSS 20.0 in order to confirm the contralateral normal hip joint is available in preoperative planning and postoperation assessment of hip arthroplasty as a reference.Meterials and Methods:Meterials:we chose patients who visited the our orthopedic clinic during March 2016 and October 2017 because of other disease.we select 50 anteroposterior(AP)radiographs of the pelvis from picture archiving and communication system(PACS).There were 27 men and 23 women. All the study object were excluded from hip joint pathology. Methods:We measuered the actual value of acetabulum width, femoral offset, medullary canal diameter,meck-shaft angle,greatertro-chanteric height, emoral head center height by using PACS.All the data were analyzed using SPSS,the parameters are described by x±s,differences between the hip joints on the right and left side were assessed using a paired t-test.Statistical significance was set at p<0.05 for all analyses. Results:The results of the measurement were analyzed by SPSS software 20,and the following results were obtained: acetabulum width((?)x±s):the left 55.71±11.01 mm,the right 55.54±10.91 mm,greatertro-chanteric height((?)x±s):the left 54.58±12.13 mm,the right 55.73±12.92 mm,emoral head center height((?)x±s):the left 65.29±11.40 mm,the right 55.89±11.87 mm,medullary canal diameter((?)x±s):the left 16.45±3.28 mm,the right 18.78±3.32 mm,femoral offset((?)x±s):the left 42.41±4.34 mm,the right 16.36±4.33 mm,meck-shaft angle((?)x±s):the left 130.06±4.58°,the right 130.84±5.65°.The P values of the left and right sides paired t test results were all greater than 0.05.The hip morphology has no statistical significance difference in acetabulum width(P=0.303),femoral offset(P=0.144),medullary canal diameter(P=0.374),meck-shaft angle(P=0.087),greater trochanteric height(P=0.258),femoral head center height(P=0.321).Conclusion:There is no statistical significance difference between the hip joints on the right and left side in normal adults.A contralateral normal hip joint could used as a reference standard in preoperative planning and postoperative assessent of hip arthroplasty in case of the pathology hip joint srestrict us to measure surgical data such as unilateral femoral head necrosis, unilateral intertrochanteric fracture of femu by using the PACS system.
