| Objectives:Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is one of the common complications of diabetes mellitus,affecting up to 30-50%of patients with diabetes.With the development of the disease,patients will suffer from numbness,pain,foot ulcers,gangrene and amputation,which seriously affect their quality of life.In recent years,many scholars believe that health behavior is a non-drug treatment that effectively promotes the physical and mental health of individuals and improves their quality of life.It can prevent disease,maintain health,promote rehabilitation and improve prognosis.At present,relevant researches in the field of health behavior of patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy focus on single aspects such as exercise and diet.However,there is no comprehensive assessment of health behavior among patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.And the relationship between the health behavior and quality of life among patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy is unclear.The purpose of this study is to conduct multi-dimensional investigation and analysis for patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy,and then explore the correlation between health behavior and quality of life.According to investigation results,we will recommend nursing intervention strategies for these patients to promote their health behavior.This in order to prevent the process of peripheral neuropathy and improve the quality of life of these patients.Methods:Using convenience sampling method,we selected 330 patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.This investigation conducted in endocrinology department of one hospital in Changchun from December 2016 to June 2017.The general demographic survey scale,Health Promoting Lifestyle ProfileⅡand the Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short Form Health Survey were included in the questionnair.Epidata3.1 was used to establish the database and recorded the data.The data were analyzed by SPSS 17.0 statistical software.Mean and standard deviation,median and quartile,frequencies and percentage were used to describe demographic characteristics,health behavior and quality of life.Independent t-tests,the one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA)and nonparametric tests examined differences of scores in the health behavior and quality of life based on demographic characteristics.Spearman bivariate correlation was used to test the pattern of relationship between health behavior and quality of life.In addition,multiple stepwise regression analysis was used to determine the predicting factors quality of life.Results:1.A total of 306 subjects were effectively studied in this study.The total score of health behavior was(124.97±23.47).The highest score was in the dimension of nutrition,followed by interpersonal support,stress management,self-actualization,health responsibility.And physical activity had the lowest score.There were significant differences in the score of health behavior in terms of gender,residence,education,employment,income,HbA1c(P<0.05).2.The total score of quality of life was(105.64±20.24).The highest score was in the dimension of physical functioning,followed by social functioning,mental health,role-emotional,vitality,bodily pain,role-physical.And general health had the lowest score.There were significant differences in the score of quality of life in terms of gender,age,residence,education,employment,marital status,income,diabetes duration,diabetes treatment(P<0.05).3.There was a positive and statistically significant correlation between health behavior and quality of life(P<0.01),as well as its dimensions(P<0.05).4.The result of the multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that predictive factors of quality of life include self-actualization,physical activity,interpersonal support and health responsibility,and they explained 65.9%of the variance of quality of life(R~2=65.9).Conclusions:1.The health behavior of patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy could be promoted,especially in the domain of physical activity.2.The general quality of life of patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy was pool.And the general health of physical component scale and the vitality of mental component scale were seriously impaired.3.Patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy who performed better healthy behaviors tend to have higher quality of life.Health professionals should pay more attention to the impact of health behavior on the quality of life of patients,especially in the dimensions of self-actualization,physical activity,interpersonal support and health responsibility.4.The factors that have affected health behavior of patinets with diabetic peripheral neuropathy include gender,residence,education,employment,income and HbA1c.Health professionals should give personalized guidance for female patients and those with rural areas,low level of culture,unemployed,low income or higher HbA1c. |
