Objective:To explore the safety and efficacy of second generation 980nm diode laser therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia. Methods:Clinical data of 197 cases with benign prostatic hyperplasia during September 2016 and November 2017 were retrospectively reviewed.Of all cases,89 were treated with second generation 980nm diode laser enucleation of the prostate(DiLEP group),and the other 108 receiving transurethral plasma kinetic resection of prostate(PKRP group)served as controls.International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS),quality of life(QOL),maximal flow rate(Qmax),post void residual urine volume(PVR)were compared before treatment and 3 months after treatment. The operation time, hemoglobin reduction during operation, the volume of bladder irrigation fluid, the time of bladder irrigation, mean postoperative indwelling catheter time and incidence of complications were analyzed. Results:There were more advantages in the DiLEP group than in the PKRP group in the operation time, hemoglobin reduction during operation, the volume of bladder irrigation fluid, the time of bladder irrigation, mean postoperative indwelling catheter time(P<0.05).Compared with the values 3 months after operation,IPSS,QOL,Qmax,PVR had significantly been improved by either procedures(P<0.05).The degree of improvement in the two groups was similar(P>0.05).Conclusion:The second generation 980nm diode laser therapy has similar operation effect as transurethral plasma kinetic resection, but it has less risk of haemorrhage, shorter hospital stay, and shorter catheter indwelling durstion.Enucleation of the prostate using the second generation 980nm diode laser is a safe and effective method for the transurethral management of prostate...
