Background:Although there are lots of journal papers regarding the reduction of benign masseter muscle hypertrophy with botulinum toxin type A injection, unfortunately there are only a few researches mentioning the quantitative and qualitative relations with the optimal treatment of benign masseter muscle hypertrophy.According to my years of personal experience with ultrasound-assessment of benign masseter hypertrophy,I categorized the degrees of the Oriental masseteric hypertrophy into three groups:minimal, moderate, and severe types and also optimized the dosages of botulinum toxin type A for each group.Eventually this procedure can be utilized consistently and safely for aesthetic purposes.Object:The intension and the purpose of my research is to evaluate the results of quantitative botulinum toxin type A dosages as the treatment for different degrees of benign masseter hypertrophy.Method:Oriental benign masseteric hypertrophy was classified into three categories:minimal(1.00~1.39cm),moderate(1.40~1.59cm),severe(>1.60cm)with the aid of an ultrasound device and then select the optimal dosages of botulinum toxin type A(minimal:20u;moderate:24u;severe:28u)to reduce the masseter muscle volume.Ultrasound assessments were performed 1 month and 4 months after the injection. The data was collected for further evaluation and analysis.Subjects’footages were compared before and after the treatment for aesthetic comparisons.Result:The quantitative dosages of botulinum toxin type A injected into the classified masseteric hypertrophy showed a remarkable result.Following the ultrasound assessment after 1 month, additional botulinum toxin type A was injected into the superficial platysma muscle. On the fourth month of follow-up with ultrasound device, the volumes of the masseteric muscle were maintained in an optimal condition and so do the contouring and lifting of the lower facial.Summary:After classifying the Oriental benign masseter muscle hypertrophy with the aid of non-invasive ultrasound devices and selecting the quantitative dosages of botulinum toxin type A resulted satisfactory and a safe outcome. In addition, the superficial injection of the platysma muscle lead to a satisfying lower facial lifting contouring.
