The pathogenesis of hypertensive disease is not clear, which seriously endangers human's health. The chemical treatment for hypertension is remarkable, however,it requires patients to take medicines for life time and has obvious adverse reactions, which can't significantly reduce the complication of hypertension.Although the treatments of diseases by using traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)are slow, they can be cured completely. Therefore, treatments for hypertension with novel effective drugs from TCM are of great importance. This dissertation mainly focused on the pharmacodynamical study of treatment for hypertension with safflower compound, arising from years of clinical practice in Chinese medicine. The safflower compound consists of Safflower,Salvia miltiorrhiza,Epimedium glycoside,Angelica,White peony root,Prunella, etc.First, the pathogenesis and etiology of hypertension were codified.Second, the chemical constituents, pharmacological activity and material basis, safety and toxicity system of safflower in this compound were reviewed. Finally,we used the safflower compound to do blood pressure test on SHR mice, blood circulation test on carrageenan mice and toxicity test on acute mice. The dissertation aimed to provide experimental basis for the development and utilization of the safflower compound, which showed that the safflower compound can reduce blood pressure, clotting time, the formation of thrombus, blood viscosity and plasma viscosity, and extend bleeding time.In addition, the study revealed that the safflower compound is of low toxicity and is safe for oral administration,as well as for clinical applications.
