Uterine pyometra refers to a chronic reproductive system disease that pus is accumulated in the uterus of an adult female dog whose endometria has abnormalities.Originally,humans played the role of breeders solely in the relationship between humans and animals.However,now the relationship between humans and animals becomes closer and closer like family.The change in the relationship between humans and animals draws more attention from the society to uterine pyometra.The study of the disease will not only help pet owners build their awareness to prevent the disease,but also provide a theoretical basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment of the disease.In this paper,45 cases were collected in some areas of Guiyang,and each case was studied through clinical diagnosis,laboratory diagnosis and the isolation & identification of bacteria.The following paragraph shows the results of the paper.The age of the dogs for the 45 cases investigated ranged from 2 years old to 13 years old.10 cases(22.2%)occurred younger than the age of 6 years old and 32(71.1%)cases occurred older than the age of 6 years.According to the results,older dogs are more likely to suffer from uterine pyometra;according to the history of production,older female dogs are more likely to suffer from the disease than the virgin dogs.Among the 45 cases,dogs from 32 cases(71.1%)are small and medium-sized dogs and that of 13 cases(28.9%)are large dogs.The breeds included Alaskan,Husky,Golden Retriever,Samoyed,Shiba Inu,German Shepherd,Poodle,Pekingese dogs,Corgi,Schnauzer,Silver foxes,Pug dogs and crossbreeding breeds.In February,April,September,October,and November,pyometra was more likely to occur than in other months.According to the identification of season in China,spring includes February and April,and autumn lasts from September to November.36 of the 45 cases occurred during this period.Also,obesity increased the risk of uterine pyometra because 28(62.2%)of the affected female dogs were obese.Among all the cases,29 cases of pyometra were open and 16 cases were closed.The dogs with pyometra had symptoms of listlessness,dry nasal cavity,discharges from the corners of the eyes,hair disorder,some pigmentation and dehydration,high respiratory rate,deep breath,poor or depleted appetite,rapid drinking and excreting,vomiting,diarrhea;For the open cases,vulva can be seen with purulent secretions flow out of the secretions rancid odor;for the closed cases abdomen was enlarged,abdominal skin became tenser and vascular was engorged.Visceral jaundice can be seen when uterine pyometras is secondary to liver disease.30 of 45 cases(66.7%)have high temperature symptoms,with maximum temperature of 41°C.In the 20 cases collected,bacterial isolation and identification had been used in 17 of them and E.coli was isolated after this process.Surgical treatment and postoperative anti-inflammatory treatment can effectively treat uterine pus and pyometra.It usually takes 3 days for them to feed themselves,recover their mental health and it usually takes 10 d to return normal.
