Based on the requirements of water conservation and fertilizer conservation of newly cultivated farmland soils in the Loess Plateau, this study carried out research on the effects of modified cellulose on farmland soil and crops in the Loess Plateau. The test materials used five modified celluloses, namely CMC-NH4-I,CMC-NH4-II,CMC-Na,CMC-K-I and CMC-K-II.Research on material properties, soil nutrients, soil moisture and crop yield was carried out using laboratory and field test methods.Research on material properties, soil nutrients, soil moisture and crop yield was carried out using laboratory and field test methods. The indoor experiment explored the water absorption ratio of modified cellulose, the volume expansion ratio of soil and the adsorption capacity of solution ions. The experimental experiment of hydroponic wheat explored the effect of modified cellulose on seedling growth,SPAD value and biomass;pot experiment set six concentration gradients of 0.0%,0.5%,1.0%,1.5%,2.0% and 3.0% explored the effects of modified cellulose on wheat seedling and soil moisture and nutrients. The field trials set five gradients of 0.0%,0.1%,0.5%,1.0%,and 2.0% to investigate the effects of five modified celluloses on soil moisture, conductivity, nutrient, and crop yield. All experiments were set up for 3 repetitions. The field trial is located in Nangou Village,Ansai District,Yan'an City,Shaanxi Province(N36o52'28.10 ",E109o13'36.06").The main results of the study are as follows. The water absorption of different modified celluloses varies greatly.CMC-K-II has the highest water absorption capacity and the water absorption ratio is 133.92 g/g,which is significantly higher than other modified cellulose. The water absorption ratio of CMC-Na is significantly lower than that of the other four modified celluloses, and the water absorption ratio is 48.67 g/g.The application of cellulose in soil can expand the soil. The volume expansion rate of soil with 1.0% CMC-K-II can reach 40.5%.The modified cellulose is added to the solution, which has adsorption to water ions, with the increase of solution concentration. As the concentration of the solution increases, the amount of adsorption increases. The soil water retention effect of different modified celluloses is quite different. The modified cellulose adsorption can retain more water under hydroponic conditions to reduce evaporation and promote the growth of wheat seedlings. In the case of wheat pot experiment, the moisture content of soil treated with modified cellulose was always higher than that of the control. The water content of the soil increased at an increasing concentration, and the soil moisture content of 3% CMC-Na applied at the end of the pot experiment was 13.76%.Under the field test conditions, the modified cellulose can increase the soil water content. The volumetric water content of the modified cellulose treated soil in the whole growth period of the millet is higher than that of the control. After the field test, the CMC-NH4-I and CMC-NH4-II treatment significantly increased soil water content, and CMC-NH4-I and CMC-NH4-II had a significant positive correlation with soil water content(correlation coefficients were 0.69 and 0.66,respectively).The soil nutrient effects of different modified celluloses are quite different.Under pot experiment conditions, the application of CMC-NH4 could significantly increase the content of soil alkaline nitrogen. The application of CMC-K could significantly increase the soil available potassium content, and the application of modified cellulose increased with the increase of soil nutrient content.Under field application conditions, modified cellulose had no significant effect on soil total nitrogen, total phosphorus and total potassium content;application of CMC-NH4 could significantly increase soil nitrate nitrogen content, and application of CMC-K could significantly increase soil available potassium content. The application of CMC-NH4 can significantly increase soil available phosphorus content.Different modified fiber materials have certain effects on crop growth and yield. In the hydroponic experiment, the dry matter quality of the aboveground part can be improved. The application of modified cellulose in the pot experiment can improve the biological quality of wheat. In the field experiment, the application of modified cellulose has a certain contribution to the improvement of millet yield,0.1% CMC-NH4-I and 0.1% CMC-NH4-II treatment can significantly increase millet yield;application of CMC-Na has no significant effect on millet yield increase;application of different concentrations of CMC-K-II can increase millet yield and increase millet with concentration Production shows an increasing trend. The field test results showed that when the applied concentration of modified cellulose was 0.1%(100kg/hm2),there was an increase in yield effect on millet, especially CMC-K,which was used as a suitable application concentration recommended for field application; The negative impact on the soil by a concentration of 1.5% applied. The field application of modified cellulose did not reveal the problem of elevated soil p H.
