In this paper,a high yield and high quality waxy maize hybrid-ND603 was selected by 350 waxy maize hybrids as experimental materials after 2 years of plot test and 1 year of special maize regional test in the whole province. The effects of 5 planting densities(5.25;6.0;6.75;7.5;8.25 ten thousands plants/hm2)and 3 N applications(138;184;230 kg/hm2)on the main agronomic characters and yield of ND603 were studied. The results show that:(1)ND603 is a kind of high starch waxy corn variety, the crude starch content accounts for 76.8%,and the starch is all branched amylopectin, the bulk density is up to 824 g/1.(2)When the plant height and spike height of ND603 were at low density, there was no significant change in the nitrogen application amount. In the case of high density, the amount of nitrogen increased first and then decreased.Spike length, row grain number, and spike grain weight increased with the increase of nitrogen application amount at low density, and first increased and then decreased with the increase of nitrogen application amount at high density. At low density, the weight of 100 grains increased with the increase of nitrogen application, and the length of bare tip decreased with the increase of nitrogen application. At high density, the weight of 100 grains decreased with the increase of nitrogen application, and the length of bare tip increased with the increase of nitrogen application.(3)The correlation analysis of ND603 between main agronomic characters and yield indicated that spike length and row grain number had significant positive correlation with yield. There was a significant negative correlation between the length of barren tip and yield.(4)ND603 had an optimum planting density of 6.75w plants/hm2 and an optimum nitrogen application rate of 230 kg/hm2 in the spring sowing corn area of jilin province.
