Study On The Relationship Between Germination Ability And Seed Vigor Of Maize Seeds

This experiment has chosen sixty-one maize varieties as test materials which have already been marketed,and these varieties have been tested respectively by a series of germination tests including standard germination test,field emergence test,chill resistance germination test,artificial accelerated aging test,Cool soaking test,ability of deep-sowing tolerance test,manual simulation draught test,salt stress test,endurable storage test.Analysis the correlative relation between performance of seeds in different adverse situations and seed vigor(germination rate in cold test and field emergence test).And make rank of activity of test samples by using the synthesis scores of PCA(principal component analysis)seed vigor.Following is the main results obtained in this study(eighty five percent was set as the unified standard for the test,and reach eighty five percent indicated that the vitality index was good).1.The germination energy index of all test samples mostly more than eighty percent and ninety percent of them reached eighty five percent;The germination energy index clustered around above eighty four percent,and ninety eight percent of samples will be more than eighty five percent,that is all of seed up to the seed production standard.2.The field germination ratio of samples are between the range of sixty percent and ninety five percent.Thirty two of them will more than eighty five percent,about fifty two percent of whole amount of samples.The aging germination rate of sample are between the range of seventy percents and one hundred percent.Ninety percent of samples reached the ratio of eighty percent.LongGao L2,LongDan 54,DongYa 111# have poor ability of aging resistance.They need to be paid more attention about the condition of temperature and moisture during the storage and delivery.3.The low temperature germination rate of test sample is between forty percent and one hundred percent,About eighty five percent of samples will get more than eighty five percent of ratio.Nine verities of test samples including LongGao L2,DongYa 81 have poor cool resistance ability,and are not suitable to use in some areas in low temperature.The drought resistance germination rate of test maize is in the range of seventy one and one hundred percent,ninety seven percent of samples will get eighty five percent for germination ratio.LongGao L2 and LiangYu 99-2 these two kinds have poor drought resistance ability,and It should not be planted in the areas which are in draught.The salt tolerance germination rate of maize is in the range of sixty one and one hundred percent,eighty nine percent of samples will get the germination ratio of eighty five percent.Seven kinds of samples including ShenYu 35,LiangYu 188 have poor salt tolerance ability,and are not suitable for planting in salt and alkali areas.The deep sowing germination rate of samples is in the range of seventy nine and one hundred percent.Ninety three percent of them will get the germination ratio of eighty five.LiangYu 99-2,DongYa 108#,DongYa 3# have poor deep sowing ability,and they should be paid more attention on sowing depth.The germination rate of samples after cold soaking is in the range of twenty and ninety six percent.Only twenty eight percent of seeds will be more than eighty five percent,DanYu 336,DongYa 2# and another 44 species failed to reach the standard germination rate.The test indicated that only seventeen kinds of seed including LiaoDan 1211,SuiYu 23 are suitable for planting in the low temperature and humid areas.4.After one year storage of tested maize species,the germination rate is in the range of thirty nine and one hundred percent.Seventy nine percent of samples has reach eighty five percent germination rate.Thirteen species of sample including LiangYu 99-2,DongYa 81# have poor endurable storage ability and not good for long time storage.More attentions should be paid to the temperature of storage in case of the loses may caused by long term storage.5.Standard germination test of potential,PEG simulated germination rate of drought,cool soaking germination rate 、 Deep sowing germination rate,all is showing highly significant correlation with field germination rate.Standard germination rate and the rate of artificial accelerate aging test showed significant correlation.The germination rate of Salt stress test and cool soaking test showed highly significant correlation with low temperature germinate test.The seed pelleting and shape both have effect on correlative relation between seed adversity and vitality.6.The ranking scores of SPSS software only can proved that the comprehensive vitality of seed is strong.If you want choose the seed with nice single stress resistance,it still need to take each values of every item in adversity as reference.I compared the scores the calculated by PCA of maize seed vitality index,germination index,and other indexes.Though there is not much difference among the sores of vitality index,germination index,and principal components,they are still have significant differences.Germination index and vitality index can be methods of quick testing of seed vitality.Every tests and PCA should be done if we want more precise answer...
