In the past,the Chinese traditional agriculture developed vigorously.However,the Opium War had a strong impact on C hinese traditional agriculture,as same as national destiny,was on the verge of collapse.Based on this situation,more and more men and women with high ideals realize the importance of saving agriculture and the studies of advanced agriculture come into being.With the spread of western culture,more and more missionaries realized that the promotion of advanced agriculture contributed to the missionary work in china,and some missionaries also began to focus on the promotion of advanced agriculture.Especially,after the revolution of 1911,missionaries gave assistance to set up a number of advanced agricultural schools,hoping to spread Christianity to the vast rural areas o f china.The agronomy of the Lingnan University was a vivid example.The Lingnan agricultural University was founded in 1922,which developed by agronomy of the Lingnan University.In order to facilitate the promotion and dissemination of Agricultural Science in south of the Lingnan University,the publication of agricultural related journals has been published.Agriculture related publications had been published and Agricultural Monthly is produced in this background.The Lingnan agricultural University was reorganized as the Lingnan agriculture College.Then along with the war of resistance against aggression,the articles published in Agricultural(Bimonthly)Monthly reflected that the Chinese people's efforts to develop the country's advanced agriculture.Before the Lingnan agricultural University had not set up a publishing organization and various agricultural journals,the correlation studies about agriculture had been printed booklet or posting to periodical office.It was harmful to the spreading of agricultural science and technology.After the establishment of Agricultural(Bimonthly)Monthly,the journal was a C hinese periodical,which was available to domestic readers.The purpose was to promote agriculture,promote agricultural improvement,the content was divided into writings,forestry,horticulture,surveys,news,quotes,literature,agriculture,etc.,and other events related to agriculture are published.In July 1926,Agricultural Monthly changed its name to Agricultural Bimonthly to increase the length of an article.In July 1932,Agricultural(Bimonthly)Monthly stopped publication because of financial problems.However,it resumed publication in 1930 due to the strong demand of the readers.Thus it can be seen that the influence of a journal.By referring to a large number of document literature,this paper show a panoramic analysis of Agricultural Bimonthly and development of Agricultural Science in the Lingnan University.The paper firstly introduces the background and purpose of the Agricultural(Bimonthly)Monthly for a preliminary understanding of the publication.The second part analysis the development evolution of this publication,discusses the difficult situation of the journal process,and constantly adjusts its running policy accord ing to the situation change in order to catch up with the needs of the times.The third part summarizes the journal's editing style and the circulation,investigates the periodical's unique style,as an agricultural science and technology journal under suc h a special background.The fourth part examines excerpts of some articles in the Agricultural(Bimonthly)Monthly and the analysis of characters.In the fifth part,the author discusses the seasonal price information reflected Agricultural(Bimonthly)Monthly.The sixth part summarizes value and historical significance of Agricultural(Bimonthly)Monthly,including diffusion of western agriculture science and technology;Affections on the government's agricultural policy formulation during the Republic of China;The guidance function of agricultural production to farmers;The great contribution to the higher education of the modern C hina agriculture.In a word,the Agricultural(Bimonthly)Monthly plays an important role not only in the history of the Lingnan University and South China Agriculture university but also the history of higher agriculture education and scientific research,what is more,even in the history of China's modern higher agricultural history,which provide a very valuable information and microcosm for us to understand the agricultural technology and people's life in the Republic of China.
