Investigation And Selection Of 65 Excellent Progenies Of ’Okubo’ Peach

’Okubo’ peach is a major cultivar with the largest planting area in Hebei province.The planting area reaches about 500,000 mu,accounting for about 40% of the total peach planting area.However,after a long period of cultivation,Okubo’s varieties have been degenerated and many problems appeared.For example,the maturity period is too concentrated,long term cultivation of the same breed leads to seed degradation,the improper cultivation method leads to the decline of fruit quality,and so on.Therefore,it is urgent to improve the quality of ’Okubo’.Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology has always adopted the method of natural breeding to improve the quality of ’Okubo’ peach.Efforts have always been made to develop a new variety better than ’Okubo’ peach,Up to now,9 new varieties have been cultivated,such as Jiu Hong,Jiu Shuo,Jiu Yan,Jiu Cui,Jiu Yu,Jiu Xian,Jiu Mi,Jiu Xia,Jiu Li,7 of which are approved by the Hebei forest variety Approval Committee.To make ’Okubo’ peach maintain a good development space in Hebei province,it is necessary to select new varieties to get popular approval and get consumer satisfaction.Efforts have been made to improve the quality when selecting new varieties,and strive to make one generation better than the former,enrich the variety diversity to meet the needs of different consumption groups.The new cultivars can adjust the variety structure in different promotion periods to promote the healthy development of peach industry in Hebei province.The nursery garden in Mancheng District in Baoding is the practice base of production,study and research of Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology.There are more than 100 peach varieties(lines)in this base.In this experiment,sixty-five seedling progenies of ’Okubo’ were tested in this experiment,and their growth habits and quality characteristics were investigated in detail.The key and excellent lines were selected from 65 excellent lines.Through investigation and comparison,the new excellent varieties that could be used in production were selected.19 lines with excellent quality were selected from 65 excellent lines,of which 5 were precocious,10 were medium mature,and 4 were late maturing.The selected strains were better in appearance traits or internal traits than other cultivars at the same maturity stage.In the future,it may exhibit good value and prospects for development.
