Shilu Art Museum

Northwest University's main educational places have been moved to their new campus.The role of the old campus is going to be changed into a role locating in downtown area: from educational purpose into cultural recreational purpose,reaching a goal of interacting with modern city.Northwest University Library's function will be changed into a literal art center for local writers and artists to establish a platform for communicating between cities and universities for the reasons I mentioned above.Shi Lu,the leader of “Chang'an” painting style,experience most of his art career in Xi'an.So Northwest University decides to build an art museum for him and the space will come from the renovation of old library.My paper's topic is to investigate the methods of renovating old library under the certain situation.The starting point of the design of Shilu Art Museum is the artist Shi Lu.The dissertation first sorts out the life experience of Shi Lu and the development process of art creation,as well as the classification and refinement of his artistic works and artistic spirit.The thesis also carries out a comprehensive arrangement on the art genre of Shi Lu “Chang'an Hua Pai”.Thus,we can have a detailed understanding of Shi Lu.Secondly,the paper establishes a comprehensive architectural archive of the old library of Northwest University.The investigation of the old library of Northwest University is based on the elements of the context,spatial scale and function,structure and materials,and memory.Third,the research is conducted by selecting the case of a famous personality art museum,defining its basic concepts and urban functions.Then the summary of the design methods of individual art museum cases for other artists is conducted from the aspects of spatial scale and function,exhibition outline and streamline,display mode,building structure and skin.Through the investigation of the case construction,the evaluation benchmark,these cases are compared with the old library building space.These comparisons are established as criterions for the advantages and disadvantages of renovation for the old library.Finally,the goals,principles,and design strategies of the renovation design are proposed,and then generating the project and expression are stated.
