As architects,the tools in our hands are constantly changing.Architecture is developing in the direction of complexity and high integration.Of course,digital technology and digital tools are deeply involved.Nowadays digital technology and its derivatives have penetrated into the architectural realm.After architecture has undergone digital design and control tools,the construction process has begun to take place more often at the factories.The introduction of robotic arms is an innovation in the way of construction.Architects need to have a way of thinking in terms of construction and to accept construction methods in the digital age.The future designers will complete the work ranging from digital design modeling,processing path programming to processing machine control.A new “digital manufacturing” or “smart construction” production model will appear on a large scale.The weaving form is a kind of specific geometry that is very important to the architectural design,where the organization of the weaving structure has a unique position and characteristics in the digital construction.Its development and application have never been interrupted.The contemporary parametric design methods have led to an increasing number of designs and practices for woven architectures.In general,woven forms are often difficult to construct.In the “digital factories” and “digital workshops” dominated by digital designers,architects are inspired by the traditional handicrafts weaving.With the support of contemporary digital technologies,traditional process operations are combined with digital process manufacturing.The new weaving structure system can be constructed with a robot arm weaving process.Digital construction based on the weaving technology of robotic arms takes the exploration of weaving digital architecture to a new level.The construction features and logical order of weaving graphics have always been the focus of parametric modeling and related design research.Based on the development of science and the development of computer technology,we explored and researched the form-generating theory of combing weaving graphics;then we developed form-generating strategy of the woven figure based on the form-generating theory of the woven figure.The use of a robot arm weaving process simulates traditional manual operations to achieve seamless design,processing,and construction.Rhino,Grasshopper 3D modeling software,KUKA|PRC digital construction software,and Kangaroo physical simulation engine were used to describe the digital construction of the arm weaving process from geometric prototype creation,performance simulation analysis,and construction route planning.This article first systematically reviewed the relevant research background,research objects and content,research methods,etc.,and built a research framework.Secondly,we studied the advanced experience of robotic arms in the field of digital construction at home and abroad,combing the reasons for the formation of weaving patterns in digital construction,design strategies,and construction methods,combining the advantages of industrial robots in the manufacturing industry,and proposed the introduction of weaving movements into the machining process of the robot arm.In the case study,the sliding form technology combined with the robotic weaving process was used to explore the form-generating of the special-shaped columns of concrete.The role of traditional sliding mode technology in promoting the performance of components in the new self-control tools was explored.The newly designed and constructed weaving structure system is the design and construction of an overall system,which combines design and construction.The construction of the weaving structure is completely based on the operation of the CNC robot platform.The use of a robotic arm to simulate the weaving motion is used to construct the organic curve form and the creation of a complex continuous surface,thereby expressing a complex form of weaving space.
