Study On Types And Construction Characteristics Of Traditional Yunnan Ceramic Kiln

Ceramic is an art of "clay cutting and burning".There is a saying in the local language that "born in soil selection,grow in shaping,and depend on burning",which shows that ceramic kilns play a vital role in the production process.Different from modern kilns that can be controlled,there are many uncertainties in traditional ceramic kilns,which depends entirely on the firing experience of the craftsman and kiln performance.The construction technology and research of Yunnan traditional ceramic kilns are only mastered by a few ceramic craftsmen,most of whom are neither well educated nor good at summarizing,so there are very few related written records.The construction of ceramic kilns was passed down from mouth to mouth by the craftsmen of the past dynasties.Therefore,its accuracy cannot be verified,and the design and construction skills are almost lost.Due to the lack of research on Yunnan traditional ceramic kilns,and no relevant research or record regarding its design and construction in the field of architecture,this paper conducts field research on 33 kilns recorded in the list of Yunnan cultural relics protection,and maps 13 existing ceramic kilns with complete structure and still in use during the investigation.Combined with historical data and measured data,Yunnan ceramic kilns are mainly studied from two major directions: type development and construction technology characteristics.First,with the types and development history of China's ceramic kilns as the overall background,according to the historical records of Yunnan kiln sites,this paper organizes and studies the types of Yunnan ceramic kilns by time axis.In addition,the investigated and mapped ceramic kilns are horizontally studied from the aspects of ceramic technology process,kiln siting,construction materials,architectural structure,etc.,and the construction characteristics are discussed with Yunnan ceramic kilns as the main obje.
