Ancient Greece is the birthplace of European civilization.Since ancient times,ancient Greece has gradually formed a series of city-state countries with the city as the center.At the same time,in ancient Greece,the “Hippodamian” appeared in the urban layout,with the orthogonal town planning as the skeleton and the city square as the center.However,whether the theory of orthogonal town planning found by Hippodamus has always been controversial.In fact,this urban layout,consisting of orthogonal road system,existed as early as the 5th century BC in which Hippodamus lived.The Hippodamian reflects the spirit of democracy and equality in politics.Hippodamian is divided the city into three parts: Acropolis,public building and residential area.It is a kind of urban planning mode with strong artificial trace with the gradual establishment of ancient Greek Aesthetic Concept and the influence of the development of natural science and rational thinking,in addition to the layout techniques of humanism and naturalism.At first,the Hippodamian was fully embodied in Melitus,and then widely used in the Greek and Roman world.The first mock exam city of ancient Greece,Turii,Rhodes,Hellenistic cities,Priene,Alexandria,Pompeii,Timgad,Aosta and so on are typical examples of this model.After the middle ages,the urban construction retained the essence of the Hippodamian,changed the city's appearance with its flexible form and strong adaptability,and had a profound historical impact.This paper takes the Hippodamian as the research object,systematically combs the origin,formation,development,practice and historical influence of the model on the basis of making full use of the literature and archaeological data,and,the Hippodamian on the ancient Greek philosophy that follow the ancient Greek mathematics and aesthetic principles,conform to the ideal citizens national orderly management,meet the Greek city-states,Alexander empire and the Roman empire mass and easy to establish the requirements of the colonial city,is a kind of profound,yet remain urban planning mode.
