Greece is one island on Aegean. Although its area is very small, it has indelible impact on the whole world. It not only produced the ancient civilization of the world, but also becomes the inexhaustible source of the world artistic development, especially, which left us valuable artistic legacy on the aspects of architectural art and styles, at the same time has significant and far-reaching influence on the world architectural art. Everything has its own ways of expressing, so is architecture. We can find out the material and spirit world of the ancient Greeks through ancient Greek architecture. Somebody says: "Architecture is concretionary music." But the "tune" of the ancient Greek architecture is flowing—Its architectural art and styles spread almost all over the world. We can say that ancient Greek architecture is like a gentleman—he doesn't publicize himself and is not gorgeous, but he has its profound connotation; he is solemn, elegant and noble. If we say the ancient Greek culture is the source of the world culture, then we can say the ancient Greek architecture is the source of the world architecture. This passage introduces the formation process and the characteristics of buildings of the ancient Greek architecture to the readers, combined with ancient Greek regional features, cultural features and social structure. The emphasis is placed on the development and the forms of existence of the ancient Greek architecture of the ancient Greek national ideology.Chapter one, introduction about the developmental process of ancient Greek architecture. According to the characteristics of buildings of the ancient Greek architecture of different ages, the developmental process of ancient Greek architecture is divided into six periods: Aegean Civilization Period, Homeric Period, Archaic Period, Classical Period, Hellenistic Period and Declining Period. In the passage there are the analysis about the characteristics of buildings of the six periods, introduction about the representative buildings of different periods and explanation about the development of the ancient Greek architecture types.Chapter two, introduction about the geographical constraints of the architectural styles. Greece is characteristic of small area, lots of mountains, winding coast, closely-spread islands. Therefore the buildings there are usually located according to its lay of the land. Its Mediterranean-style terrain and Sub-alpine terrain are very close, its rich earth and bald mountains are interlaced. The unique location and natural raw building materials make Greek architecture be built mainly by rocks and marble.Part three, analysis on the impact of ancient Greek myths and legends on the architectural art. Greece is a land of Pantheism. The myths and legends created by the people there are the indispensable part of the human civilization, which have influence not only on the Europe and Greece, but also on Eastern countries. In order to worship the gods they created and placed their desires on them, Greeks built a great deal of temples. That promoted the development of the ancient Greek architectural art, and made the temples become typical architecture. In the passage there are analyses on the architectural features and styles of the typical temples which have close relation with the ancient Greek myths and legends.Chapter four, implication and show of democratic, rational and humane spirit. Ancient Greeks took "Polis" as a unit and adopted slavery in democratic politics. The rulers were elected through democratic elections. The rights of the political democracy in the "Polis" belonged to all the citizens. Citizens could take part in the management of the "Polis" directly. Temples are the typical architectural form, the most remarkable holy land and the center of the "Polis" public activities. Citizens' assembly was held in the temples and citizens discussed the affairs of the "Polis" there. A high degree of integration of beauty and ration which was successfully mixed into the ancient Greek architecture shows the great harmony between the buildings. The ability of construction and creation of the ancient Greek architects are fully displayed. The brilliant artistic achievements obtained by ancient Greek architecture and the humanistic spirit implied in its culture are inseparable. This spirit is expressed not only through their appreciation, praise, respect and love for the human and human body, but also through their love of nature. In such an environment, the glorious glow of human nature can be shown by all the ancient Greek architecture. The ancient Greeks developed three major architectural orders, which are most representative: Doric order, Ionic order and Corinthian order, whose formation, development and features are mainly introduced in the passage.Chapter five, summary of historical status of ancient Greek architecture. The importance of Greek architecture for the history of Western civilization can hardly be overstated, for the Greeks established many of the most enduring themes, styles, and forms of Western architecture. Greek architecture is one of the great achievements of the history of human development. Ancient Greeks left immortal classical masterpieces of architecture. Ancient Greek architecture took part in an important role in the human developmental history and had great influence on the architecture of the later times and nations.
