Courtyartd As A Design Method For The International Department In Eco Hi-tech Island Campus Of Jinling High School

The essay introduces the research on the design method of public buildings in the contemporary city,basing on the interpretation of the “courtyard”.The research is undertaken through the design of the International Department in Eco Hi-Tech Island Campus of Jinling High School.The essay interpretates the traditional courtyard as both the intermediary of climate and the intermediary of space.When the courtyard is used in the contemporary public buildings,the former function responses to the high-dencity urban environment,yet its realization requires the full integration of the optimization of the building performance into the design process;and the latter function responses to the need for publicness in contemporary public buildings,while this new aim would influence the form and character of the building.Based on this understanding,the essay attempts to develop the design method of courtyard public building,which includes both the principles and the techniques.The former bases on the design process of the International Department in Eco HiTech Island Campus of Jinling High School.The latter discusses the specific techniques on the aspects of surrounding environment,circulation organization,performance optimization and place-making,and the cases here includes both the International Department and other related public buildings.
