In recent years, the concept of sustainable development has gradually been deeply rooted in the people's mind, and various fields are actively exploring. As one of the five major levels of human settlement science, community is closely related to people's daily life. The sustainable development of community is of great significance for building a better human settlements environment. Therefore, taking the Beilin District of Xi'an as an example, this paper takes the stock community as the research object, and uses the spatial analysis function of GIS to study the sustainable development of all communities in the Beilin District.First of all, this paper summarizes the research trends and relevant assessment systems of sustainable communities at home and abroad, and constructs the assessment system of sustainable communities based on the current situation of communities in China.Secondly, the relevant data of Beilin District are collected and screened according to the evaluation indicators, mainly including POI data,AOI data, spatial road network data, statistical yearbook data and other data published by the government website, and finally a GIS database is established. Then, the sustainability assessment of all communities in Beilin District is carried out, mainly from the four levels of resources and energy, green travel, safe and livable, and social and economic analysis.Synthesize the above four aspects to get the current situation of sustainable development of community. Finally, according to the results of sustainable community assessment, optimization strategies are proposed to achieve sustainable development of the community. The main results are as follows:(1)Build a sustainable community assessment system. This paper mainly bases on the relevant evaluation system at home and abroad, combined with the current situation of community construction and data availability and other factors to build a sustainable community evaluation system, which is mainly used to evaluate the sustainable development of all communities in a certain city.It mainly includes four levels of resources and energy, green travel, safe and livable, and social and economic aspects, ten meso indicators of resources, energy, public transport, etc, and 27 micro indicators of water resource utilization, other resources utilization, power supply,etc.(2)Different levels of community sustainable development in Beilin District.Communities present different characteristics at the four levels of resources and energy, green mobility, safe livability, and social and economic levels. Most of the communities in the area of resources and energy present the same level. At the level of green travel, the community level of the two areas is low,and both areas are outside the scope of Metro services. At the safe and livable level, there is a clear demarcation line. The communities in the south and east of Beilin District have lower scores, the communities in the north are higher, and the middle area community score is in the middle. At the social and economic level, communities in southwest and southeast areas scored higher, while most communities in other areas were in a lower state. Finally,it is found that the areas with lower community scores are located in the south and northeast, and the northern areas around Yongning Gate and the city wall have the highest community scores.(3)Research on the optimization strategy of community sustainable development. In the strategic research, this paper studies the relevant optimization strategies from the three perspectives of urban planning specialty, government and the public, reflecting the importance of planning guidance, government leadership and public participation.
