In both the Rural Reconstruction Scheme and the Rural Revitalization Strategy, the concept of harmonious development between human and nature has been mentioned, and greater importance has been attached to the landscapes in rural areas in accordance with relevant policies. At the same time, rural planning has included some more requirements to keep itself advancing with times.Geographically, humanistically and scenically, traditional villages are valuable historical legacies. The process of urbanisation makes the original traditional rural landscapes gradually fade away.An effective balance between development and conservation can hardly be reached. This thesis mainly explored the factors constituting the traditional landscapes, where, through the combined method of both qualitative and quantitative research,a quantitative evaluation system was established to be used for guiding the creation of landscapes in the rural planning in villages. With regard to evaluation on the traditional rural landscapes,no systematical research is of availability within China.Based on the clarification of some relevant concepts, the basic construction principles and fundamental ideas regarding how the evaluation system of traditional rural landscapes can be established were confirmed through the categorisation of the current village landscapes and their scenic features.Zhuge Village,Shanchong Village and Doukui Village were used as examples in this research, through various research methods including field investigation, public participation and interviews with experts, some evaluation standards were ascertained. In addition, index weights were determined through the analytic hierarchy process, and thereby the evaluation system of traditional rural landscapes was established. The marking criteria and rubrics of each index were ascertained via comprehensive evaluation method to guide the research on landscapes. The main conclusion of this thesis will be given hereinafter. The factor evaluation system of traditional rural landscapes was established, with the criteria layer consisting of natural landscapes, artistic landscapes, humanistic landscapes and soft environment, and the index layer consisting of 27 indexes including seasonal characteristics. In accordance with the sequence of its index weights, humanistic landscapes are particularly significant in presenting the traditional rural landscapes. The match between evaluation and rural planning was fulfilled.Traditional villages belong to specially conserved rural areas. Therefore, the public participation in the evaluation of the traditional rural landscapes meets the new requirements formulated in the process of rural planning.Landscape evaluation can provide the relevant institutions, which are in charge of rural planning, tourism planning and traditional village conservation and development planning, with effective guidance in terms of landscape conservation. The results of the empirical research conducted in Daimei Traditional Village demonstrate that the natural landscapes and scenic landscapes in Daimei Traditional Village are currently in good condition, while there is considerable room for improvement in regard to that of artificial landscapes.Lack of industrial characteristics is a significant factor hindering the presentation of artificial landscapes in Daimei Traditional Village. The rural planning for Daimei Traditional Village in the future should be established based on the following four aspects: natural landscapes, artificial landscapes, humanistic landscapes and soft environment, where attention should be paid to addressing the disadvantages, and a balance between conservation and development need to be stricken.
