Contemporary facade design tends to use digital tools to pursue complex aesthetic effects,but the mathemetical logic of design often is often inseparatable from the support of geometric principles.Among various geomtries,Tiling is characterized for the inherent logic and external artistic features,which showes great potentiality in architectural facade design.Meanwhile,as a commonly used para-metric design method,geometric algorithms have certain advantages in improving design efficiency.Therefore,this paper focused on the design method of architectural facade based on the Tiling theory and geometric algorithms.Firstly,due to the fuzzy understanding of Tiling problem in the field of architecture,the paper point-ed out that the Tiling theory belongs to Discrete Geometry in theoretical level through literature res-earch,and preliminarily discussed the application potentiality of discrete geometry and related princi-ples in architectural design.On this basis,the basic properties of Tiling are combed from a discrete geometrical perspective,and types of Tiling are analyzed deeply to reconstruct the recognition frame-work of known tiling patterns.The paper carefully analyzed the relation between tiling and other geo-metric branches,and lay the theoretical foundation for architectural facade design.Then,this paper focused on the study of surface design method including interference algorithm,Voronoi algorithm,Section algorithm and Origami algorithm with various tiling prototypes.These geometric algorithms are based on different design principles,and possess advantages and limitations of themselves.Fina-lly,refering to the parametric design process of an existing case,the architectural surface design me-thod based on the tiling theory and geometric algorithm was summarized.Started with basic theory,the paper reestablished the understanding of tiling.Taking geometric algo-rithms as tools,the design method of complex facade and its application were studied.Research pro-vided a systematic surface design method with strong operability and integration with modular const-ruction,which is helpful to expand the creative thinking in architecture design.
