Research On The Screen Wall Art Of The Traditional Residential Courtyard In North China

The screen wall plays the functional role of “leading”,“hiding”,“surrounding” and“connecting” in the courtyard.As a component element of traditional residential courtyard,its special position,structure and shape,artistic carving,decoration style and others characteristics all formed a regular simple yet elegant atmosphere,full yet natural,as well as a natural and vivid art style,which plays a finishing role in the traditional residential courtyard environment.North China is the exchange center of Central Plains,Inner Mongolia,northeast regions,northwest regions and other regions.Because of its unique geographical location and multicultural exchange,North China formed special screen wall art characteristic style which are quite different from South China,especially in material apply,composition characteristics,decoration style and decoration theme.This paper analyzes the screen wall art characteristics of traditional residential courtyard in North China,based on the literature review and field investigation of North China's courtyard-house screen wall which is represented by Beijing,Tianjin,Hebei,and Shanxi.Taking the screen wall of the traditional residential courtyard in North China as the research object,this paper firstly deeply analyzes its three aspects of origin,structure development and decoration changes from a history perspective.Based on this,it further analyzes the art characteristics of the traditional residential courtyard screen wall in North China.After that,according to position setting,dimension,functional aesthetic of screen wall in courtyard to analyze the structure type,material type,carving technique,decorative theme and other aspects,to explore the aesthetic characteristics and culture connotation contained in the screen wall art of traditional residential courtyard in North China.Finally,the paper analyzes the deep value of the screen wall of traditional residential courtyards in North China from three aspects: culture,history and economy,and also provides some ideas for the inheritance and protection of it.
