Rising incidents of poor communication management among the international construction projects is an increasing concern in Africa and Uganda in particular. As the country is experiencing a drastic urbanisation and development like the rest of Africa, the development has caused new challenges to the local construction sector due to its lack of skills and capital at the same time. This has created a way for foreign construction companies especially from China to come and bridge the gap, carrying along the challenges of cross-cultural communication. The purpose of this research is to study the communication management practices in culturally diverse construction projects,to contribute to Uganda’s developing construction sector in the area of cross-cultural communication management.By using content analysis on a successful case study of Karuma Hydropower Project(KHPP),this study analyses the cross-cultural communication management practices administered by the management team, and compares the findings with the already existing literature in the same study area.Communication was identified as the key point in influencing the management of cross-cultural communication. It was again found out that British culture has a great influence on Uganda’s culture in the construction sector. Therefore, this study answers the question regarding the effective management of cross-cultural communication problems in international construction projects. The fact that personality differences emerged as an independent factor in managing these problems,it brought in a question of doubt as to whether the major challenges in multicultural projects are solely a result of cultural diversity or not, further studies are therefore recommended to establish relationships between the personality differences and effective cross-cultural communication management in international construction projects. |
