A Study Of Air Cargo Market Competitiveness Evaluation Of Zhengzhou Airport

Zhengzhou airport,one of the eight regional aviation hubs in China,is the only international airport and an important gateway for opening up in Henan Province.Resulting from a series of strategic guidelines put forward by Henan provincial government which claimed to exclusively support the development of air cargo,Zhengzhou airport took the lead and sought a differentiated development path from the surrounding central airports.The air cargo throughput went through a rapid increase during the 12 th Five Year Plan period.However,as the volume exceeded500,000 tons,the airport's lack of market competitiveness began to show under the consistent environmental fluctuations such as global economic downturn and fierce competition from surrounding airports.As a result,the international cargo throughput dropped for two consecutive years.It can be observed that Zhengzhou airport lacks sustainable competitive advantage in the increasingly fierce market competition,and needs to be comprehensively evaluated to find out the factors causing the problem.Commence with introducing the current development of Zhengzhou Airport's air cargo business,the thesis evaluates its performance in aspects including service capability,logistics enterprise profit and industry driving to locate the parts with poor results.Then the study builds up an air cargo competitiveness evaluation system by collecting 144 pieces,9 categories of data from 16 domestic airports,and processes the data through Principal Component Analysis(PCA).Afterwards,the 16 airports are scored on all the principal components.The results show that Zhengzhou Airport behaves relatively poor on the numbers of airlines,connected airports and economic environment compared with the surrounding airports.Its market competitiveness doesn't comply with its performance in volume growing and still has much room to improve.Regarding the evaluation results and referring to the development history of the national hub airports,the study puts forward practical ideas and measures for Zhengzhou airport to enhance its market competitiveness in the next step.The studynot only provides reference and practical guidance for the airport's cargo market expansion,but also has application value and reference significance for other domestic airports of similar development stage.
