At present,China is one of the major steel producing countries in the world.Steel slag is a by-product of the steelmaking process,and the large-scale production of steel will inevitably lead to the accumulation of steel slag.China's steel slag comprehensive utilization rate is extremely low,and there is still considerable room for recycling and resource utilization.Although China's comprehensive utilization of steel slag has also been actively explored,the effect after treatment is not satisfactory.Therefore,it is of great engineering value and social significance to carry out research on the mix design of steel slag stabilized soil mixture and paving the test section.In this paper,the road performance and volume stability problems that need to be solved for steel slag stabilized soil,combined with relevant specifications and the latest research results,the design requirements and filling technical requirements of steel slag stabilized soil as roadbed packing and the principle of steel slag reinforced road bed are proposed.Based on the compaction test,penetration test,unconfined compressive strength test and CBR water immersion expansion test,the relationship between the maximum dry density and the optimum moisture content of steel slag stabilized soil mixture and the fineness and dosage of steel slag was studied.The influence of compaction degree and fineness on the strength and volume stability of the mixture was obtained,and the optimum moisture content,maximum dry density and optimum mix ratio of the steel slag stabilized soil mixture were proposed.The design and performance comparisons of three improved soils,namely steel slag stabilized soil,cement stabilized soil and lime stabilized soil,were carried out.From the aspects of road performance and volume stability,three improved soils were compared and analyzed.The results showed that the steel slag was stable.The soil has high strength and good stability,fully meets the design and performance requirements of roadbed packing,and explores the factors affecting the strength of three improved soils.The formation mechanism of three improved soils is analyzed from the microscopic point of view.Through economic benefit analysis and social environmental benefit analysis,it can be seen that steel slag stabilized soil has more economic benefits and social environmental benefits than cement stabilized soil and lime stabilized soil,especially social environmental benefits.In order to verify the application effect of steel slag stabilized soil,the test section was paved in the Changyi Expressway double line in Hunan Province.After the test compaction degree meets the engineering design requirements,it is more than 96%.The bearing capacity meets the requirements of design deflection value,and the deflection is qualified.The rate of 100%indicates that the steel slag stabilized soil has good road performance.
