The number of steel output will reach 500 Million ton, which means the amount of steel slag is up to 50 million ton. In China, the utilization level and ratio is low, compared with the comprehensive utilization ratio we presented. The steel-slag packing occupied the farmland and polluted the environment. We are exploring the utilization technology of steel-slag, but the efficient way of extensive utilization is still not founded. How to enhance the utilization ratio of steel-slag is a problem needed to be solved right now.Based on the practical needs of the construction in Ye-Wu highway engineering, the characters of the steel-slag produced by WuYang steel company were studied. The road performance of pure steel-slag, steel-slag soil, lime steel-slag soil, cement steel-slag soil was analysised. The different mix amounts of steel-slag, ages and diameters were put more emphasis.The feasibility of using steel-slag replaced the part of lime and cement as road bed and subgrade material was discussed. The results were showed as follows.(1)The research of different mix amounts of steel-slag, ages and diameters which were important index for steel-slag soil, lime steel-slag soil and cement steel-slag showed that the strength increased with the higher amount of steel-slag. It also indicated that the performance of steel-slag mixture was good with the naturally grade, and the influence of age is little.In terms of stability of steel-slag, the age of 8 months was recommended.(2) The strength of the 10% lime steel-slag was slightly less than 4% lime soil and 3% cement soil.But the CBR value is larger. When the amount of steel-slag rearched 30%, both the strength and CBR value were larger than 4% lime soil and 3% cement soil.This revealed that the steel-slag can replace part of lime or cement in construction.(3)Test results showed that after different soak periods and different wetting and drying cycles, the strength of steel slag soil and lime steel slag soil decreased sharply in the initial,and drove to stability of status at certain time. As more steel slag added, it had better water stability. The influence of water content when sampled was a little to steel slag soil and lime steel slag soil, but high to lime soil, especially the lower water content.(4) Based on results of unconfined compression strength test for steel slag mixture specimen of different sizes and ages, the size effect of steel slag mixture specimen is preliminarily analyzed and discussed. Test results show that the compressive strength of 50×50mm specimens is more dispersive,100×100mm is the best for laboratory test. 100×100mm specimen is the best suggestion conclusively.The utilization of steel slag mixtures showed that it had good applied effect used as road bed material.The research results can provide technical basis when we enlarge the application of similar steel slag mixtures.
