Since China’s reform and opening-up policy was implemented, the economic construction is developing rapidly. And people’s living standard is improving dramatically.Meanwhile the amount of elevator is increasing tremendously. Thus high energy consumption caused by elevator is becoming a big problem. As we need to promote energy-saving and emission-reduction,energy-saving elevator research is quite urgent and meaningful. This article will introduce current research status of energy-saving elevator and energy-saving elevator development in future.Base on that this article will propose the research on light weight car.The object of study in this article is about car component of residential elevator.Elevator car is used to carry and transport people or goods.Traditional car includes car frame and car body. The main topic of this paper is to reduce car weight by using new material and optimizing car structure under the precondition of not reducing car carrying capacity and reliability. So that elevator energy efficiency will be improved and car component will be more compact to save building space. This article presents a new way in design to reduce car weight. The concept is to combine car frame and car body together. The first step is to use Creo software to create model by Top-Down method. Then execute static and dynamic simulation by finite element method. At last verify mechanical strength by test in test lab.In this paper aluminum honeycomb panel is chosen to use as elevator car wall and floor material.Aluminum honeycomb material has many advantages like light weight, high strength and good fire performance. It can perfectly reduce car weight without weaken car strength and reliability.Comparing with the traditional car,the solution in this paper can reduce car weight up to 20% of elevator rated load and save energy consumption up to 10%.
