A Study On The Space Environment Transformation And Design Of Commercial Pedestrian Street In Small And Medium Towns

With the rapid economic development in China,on the one hand,traditional commercial pedestrian streets can no longer meet people’s needs in life,emotions and society due to aging,backwardness,chaos and other issues of the traditional commercial pedestrian street as well as the change in people’s consumption concept;On the other hand,we have seen some problems such as big demolishing and blind imitation in the rapid development.However,there are big differences between small and medium towns and big cities in comprehensive strength,such as economy and city size,as well as urban characteristics.Blind copying can easily lead to problems or even failures.Small and medium-sized towns usually enjoy a profound history and culture,a unique humanistic spirit,aesthetic inclinations,values,local natural conditions,social customs and living habits.We should transform and design the space environment according to the local street environment and its regional characteristics,and transform and design commercial pedestrian streets following the concept of sustainable development.First of all,this paper analyzes and studies the commercial pedestrian streets in many small and medium-sized cities based on the various theoretical knowledge as well as some study methods,including literature induction,interdisciplinary synthesis and fieldwork.Second,this paper collects,organizes and summarizes the systematic theoretical research on the design of commercial pedestrian street in small and medium-sized cities as well as the current status of the space environment of commercial pedestrian streets in small and medium-sized cities.Then,the paper disassembles and analyzes the urban characteristics,functional format,spatial form,landscape environment and humanization of commercial pedestrian streets.Based on an analysis of commercial pedestrian streets case in some small and medium-sized cities in China,this paper aims to explore design and transformation strategies for the content related to each element of the space environment.Finally,to verify the feasibility of the strategy in this paper through transforming and designing Xuanhua commercial pedestrian street.
