The car industry in China develops rapidly in the recent years. No matter the car makers with a joint venture background or local companies are concentrating on the developing of new products. The development cycle for new cars is getting shorter and shorter.During the development phase and also the whole life cycle of a product, the technical design change is inevitable. However, the products are promoted through these changes. In the first chapter, the writer has introduced the standard car developing process and the project management IT systems of the company in which he works. And then the reasons, classification and the influences of the design change in a car project has been analyzed. After that, the writer has introduced the whole process of the design change, including submitting, evaluating, approving, and carrying out.The DRBFM is a very useful tool for the evaluation of the design change. It's an efficient and flexible quality tool which is based on the design guidance such as design standard, check list, test regulations and manufacturing requirements.Introducing the DRBFM into the car developing process, especially into the design change management could help to distinguish and reduce the design change risk.Combining with the actual work has the writer formed a detailed risk check list for the design change. After that, the AHP(analytic hierarchy process)has been used to judge and to order all the risks which have been listed in the checklist. As a further step, the countermeasures have been defined for the three top risks. The study of this thesis has a certain practical significance on the management of the design change for the local car makers. The result of the research will be used and modified in the actual work.
