Clean-tech innovation enterprises are given continuously governmental attention on account of the environmental friendliness and sustainability. However, original drawbacks of this industry discourage potential investors: the lack of supply chain segments, the large amount of initial investments, the fragile fund-chain,the expensive and time-consuming R&D process and etc.In practice, some of these enterprises have already succeeded in attracting investors,by setting up and unleashing platform effect, after overcome remarkable difficulties. But the platform model is more difficult to form.Alternatively, collaborative innovation is accepted as a new pattern which establishes collaborative relationships thus shares R&D resources or even achievements with other entities.Collaborative innovation enables entities to interconnect voluminously and construct a huge network structure as a result.Meanwhile, the quality of collaborative innovation is challenged by the spread of industrial level of collaborative partners.Namely, the resources and information obtained by an enterprise largely depends on its position within the network structure(i.e.generally leaders obtain resources and information of high quality). Therefore, based on the relevant literature, this paper constructs a theoretical model for clean technology innovation enterprises to enhance innovation performance through collaborative innovation with external entities. And deeply analyzes the impact of collaborative innovation behavior on clean technology innovation enterprises when the main body is different.Secondly, because the network structure generated by the cooperative behavior will affect the collaboration effect, this paper also quantifies the network structure and further analyzes the adjustment effect of the network structure on collaborative innovation. This paper divides the collaborative entities into three categories: stakeholders(competitors, suppliers and providers,cross-industry partners, etc.),research institutions and universities, and government departments. This theoretical model sets innovation performance as the dependent variable and sets collaborative innovation as an independent dummy variable(i.e.an enterprise has collaborative innovation behaviours or not). This model explores whether collaborative innovation with external entities could improve innovation performance of enterprises by sampling and analysing 441 domestically listed clean-tech innovation enterprises. The network position is quantified by indicators including network centrality and structural hole index. These indicators are used for further study on the network position modulation effect of the network structure on collaborative innovation. The theoretical model and empirical analysis indicate two main conclusions.First, collaborative innovation with external entities could significantly improve innovation performance of these clean-tech innovation enterprises.Second, stakeholders and government departments out of the three categories could promote the innovation performance while research institutions and universities could not show a significant impact. The improvement of innovation performance is greater when collaborative innovation is with government departments.Third, after further introducing the network structure indicators,it is found that both the network centrality indicator and the structural hole index indicator could have significantly positive modulation of collaborative innovation.Namely, the positive modulation is greater when an enterprise is in the network center or structural hole position. The modulation effect of structural hole index indicator representing non-redundant links is weaker than the network centrality indicator representing direct contact. This modulation spread indicates that there exist more redundant links than non-redundant ones among clean-tech innovation enterprises. In the final part, the paper analyses the research results and points out the shortcomings of researching methods.
