Protection Strategies And Research On Sugar Industrial Heritage

Since the Qin and Han Dynasties,the Pearl River Delta region has been an important tribute-region of sugar.From traditional hand-made sugar to modern sugar factories,to the boom and development after the founding of New China,it has experienced a history from scratch,from manual to mechanical,from weak to strong.It is an important historical memory of Chinese sugar industry.With the economic development of the Pearl River Delta region,more and more traditional industries have been replaced by new industries,the sugar industry as a part of traditional industries is no exception.Under the multiple effects of sugar cane production reduction and opening to global sugar market,the sugar industry as traditional industry has weakened since the 1990 s and gradually withdrew from the Pearl River Delta.During the exit process,most of the sugar factories were resold,bankrupted and dismantled.The long history of sugar industry in PRD has important historical significance in the development of modern China and the industrialization time of New China.As the city expands,these old sugar factories gradually enter the people’s life circle,they are getting more and more attention on the problems of “removing” and “retaining”.Due to the wide distribution of sugar factories and the different conditions in various regions,there is no consensus on how to protect the sugar industrial heritage,and the degree of protection and reuse is also very different.This study investigated some sugar factories on the overall planning,sugar factory residential area,factory plant and internal structure in the Pearl River Delta.By comparing the cases of other sugar factories in the world’s major sugar-producing areas,the uniqueness of sugar factories in the Pearl River Delta region was proposed.Combined with the case of reuse by a few sugar industry heritages at home and abroad,some methods that can be used for reference are proposed.Considering that the Pearl River Delta sugar factory is widely distributed,the protection of a single factory can only cause other small sugar factories and economically weak areas to lose their chances of maintaining their sugar culture.The author has extended the scope of the case to the protection of the entire industrial heritage.Through the analysis of the overall revitalization of the Ruhr region in Germany,how to protect its widely distributed and different industrial heritage,and make it grow them into a unique culture of the region.On this basis,the author points out the convergence point of the regional and integrated protection of the sugar industry heritage in the Pearl River Delta region.It plays the role of urban integration economy in the Pearl River Delta,through the development model of resource allocation,resource optimization and mutual assistance,and considering the development of urban space in the Pearl River Delta region in the suburbs(the sugar factory was originally in this suburb),The ecological environment requirements of the new towns are higher,finally suggestions are made.The government should guide the establishment of official committee for the protection of sugar industry heritage,and then use the community and landscape of the new urban area as a carrier for the diversification of new urban space.Based on these the author further discussed the measures to make his plan concrete.
