Torque data reflect status of important parameters of ship power system,in order to effectively solve the transmission problem of signal and energy in the measurement of conventional active sensors using for shaft torque,a wireless passive torque measurement system is developed. This paper focuses mainly on the application of the surface acoustic wave technology(SAW)used in torque measurement.A general theoretical model revealing the relationship among frequency of SAW,the torque and the temperature was established, and digital algorithms with different boundary conditions were set up.Finite element method was used in this paper to simulate the output characteristics with different structure parameters. The optimization design of cutting of the substrate and sensitive structure was applied according to the simulation, and two kinds of SAW torque sensor for(1~100)Nm and(100~1000)Nm were made out with high loaded Q value and Low insertion loss, and a set of SAW torque sensor system prototype was achieved. The prototype was calibrated and experimental tested in laboratory. The results showed that the measurement uncertainty does not exceed 1%FS(k=2),and was capable of using in shafting wireless passive application, providing a new test method for torque measurement.
