Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is located in the northern frontier of our country, covering a vast area, spanning more than 2400 kilometers from east to west, with high plains as the main body, distributed in mountains, plains, hills, rivers, deserts and other natural landforms. This is a multi-ethnic settlement, where farming culture, nomadic culture and immigrant culture collide and merge, forming a unique regional culture in the region. As the carrier of regional culture, rural settlements embody the unique regional culture everywhere, not only the overall style of the village, but also the space form of the courtyard and the style of folk houses. For a long time, rural settlements in Inner Mongolia have been in a spontaneous state of evolution. After a long period of development, they have fully adapted to the local natural and human environment, and consequently produced a suitable and matching settlement space.Their emergence and development are influenced by many factors, such as natural environment, cultural customs, production and life style.Based on this background, through investigating and analyzing the rural settlement space of the whole Inner Mongolia region, and classifying it,the spatial characteristics of different types of rural settlements in Inner Mongolia under the influence of complex conditions are summarized, which provides a research basis for the regional creation of rural settlements in Inner Mongolia region, and also inherits the regional culture of the region.Provide strong support. In this paper,we classify the three regions of Eastern Mongolia, central Mongolia and Western Mongolia according to different production modes: pastoral owner-oriented,agricultural-oriented and semi-agricultural and semi-pastoral.Through the investigation of216 rural settlements in the region,it is found that the rural settlements in different areas under different modes of production show the characteristics of diversity. This paper makes a longitudinal comparison and Analysis on the three levels of settlement space form, courtyard space characteristics and residential space characteristics, trying to find out thecommonalities and differences among them. From the three aspects of settlement space form, courtyard space feature and residential space feature, this paper interprets the settlement space feature under different production modes, and concludes that the pastoral owner-led settlement space form presents discrete distribution form. The courtyard space is mainly open type, influenced by the Chinese style residence, some courtyards present closed type;the agricultural-led settlement space form presents agglomeration distribution form. The courtyard space is enclosed and influenced by regional culture. The main types of courtyard are one-character courtyard,two-character courtyard and L-type courtyard. The three-way courtyard is composed of residential buildings and auxiliary housing. The spatial form of semi-agricultural and semi-pastoral settlements is mixed by the joint influence of nomadic culture and farming culture. The courtyard space is different from the agricultural-dominated courtyard space in terms of the proportion of conservation space.Inter-layout;Residential space characteristics are mainly influenced by regional cultural factors. The form of residential buildings in the same area is the same or similar to the spatial layout. The layout of residential buildings in eastern Mongolia is "convex" type, while the layout of residential buildings in central Mongolia and Western Mongolia is "one" type. The spatial form, courtyard space characteristics and residential space characteristics of rural settlements in Inner Mongolia are sorted out,and the spatial characteristics of different regions under different production modes are comparatively studied, and the essential reasons for the differences are explored, which can provide research basis for regional creation in this area.
