The Global Energy Internet is a novel concept for the comprehensive utilization of multiple energy transmission in the world. The multinational interconnected grid between the power grids of Xinjiang Province in China and those of the five Central Asian countries provides a platform for the realization of this concept. The construction of multinational interconnected grid needs to consider all aspects of participants’ domestic energy development situation, power system development, and power load demand. The economic development, resource development and environmental benefits of these countries are also the evaluation indicator of the multinational interconnected grid.In view of the above problems in the planning and design process of multinational interconnected power grids, this paper conducts relevant analysis and research. The first part of this paper studies the current energy development and power grid situation in five Central Asia countries and Pakistan.Firstly, the distribution situation of coal resources, hydropower resources, wind energy resources and solar energy resources are summarized.Secondly, the current development status of power grids, power load characteristics and problems existing in the power system in five Central Asia countries and Pakistan are analized.According to the development trend chart of traditional and renewable energy production power, the problems of power imbalances and the unreasonable energy structure in these countries are found. Then, the impact of large-scale renewable energy integration and renewable energy related policies on the construction of multinational interconnected grid is studied. Finally, the feasibility of the interconnection between Xinjiang power system with the those of Central Asia is discussed. The research above lays the foundation for the realization of energy cooperation and multinational interconnection grid construction in Xinjiang Province,Central Asia and Pakistan. The second part of this paper is the application research of nighttime stable light data(DMSP data).Considering the lack of power data in five Central Asian countries, the power demand of those countries are analyzed by DMSP data.It is verified that the DMSP data has strong correlation with national economic and power demand. Then the linear relationship model between DMSP data and power demand is obtained. Then,a power demand assessment method for five Central Asian countries considering the temporal and spatial characteristics of city light variation is proposed. The example shows that city light tree model can simulate the development of the city well. Finally, based on this model, the spatio-temporal development of big cities is simulated, and the power demand of Central Asian countries is evaluated. The third part of this paper is based on the background of renewable energy cooperation development in Central Asia area.Using the combined system of thermal power generation and renewable energy(hydraulic, wind)power generation, the coordinated optimization model of the multinational interconnected grid among China, five countries of Central Asia and Pakistan is established.Based on this model, the power consumption, national energy structure and power of the electricity lines in these countries under different interconnection scenarios are calculated. The results show that the establishment of the multinational interconnected grid in Central Asia area is of great significance to the countries which are participating in this multinational interconnection grid. For Central Asian countries and Pakistan, the energy structure has optimized significantly, which not only eases the domestic shortage of electricity, but also relives the environmental pressure brought by the large-scale usage of traditional energy.Meantime, participation in the multinational interconnected grid can effectively alleviate the serious wind abandon situation in Xinjiang Power Grid. The consumption of new energy sources is promoted, and the potential of Xinjiang renewable power transmission is further developed.
