Study On The Quality Control Of Dark Chrome-plated Plastic Automotive Parts Based On DMAIC

The diversified appearances,and excellent performance of plastic plating parts are favored by many automotive design engineers.The developing direction of the plastic plating appearance,for the exterior parts of the popular vehicle in M automobile company,has been changing from bright glossy chrome to colorful chrome,like dark and pearl chrome.Dark chrome has been the dominant appearance trend of plating grill in mid-size cars’ exterior parts.However,because the application of dark chrome-plating is still not quite wide and mature,the quality of the dark chrome-plated plastic parts from suppliers lead to complaints from customers easily.Therefore,improving quality of dark chrome-plated plastic parts has been an important task for the suppliers of automobile plating parts.In this paper,DMAIC method is used to solve the problem of improving the quality of automotive decorative dark chrome-plated plastic parts.Based on the improvement of quality of dark chrome-plated plastic parts from auto parts company named S,this paper defined project definition and objectives following the steps in each phase with DMAIC model.The aim,improving the performance of PEEL OFF and CASS test of dark plating parts was set using Kano model and SIPOC method.C&E matrix analytical method,FMEA analytical method,DOE and some other statistical analysis tools of Six Sigma were used in looking for the best parameters of the etching of plastic plating and reasonable dark chrome thickness testing method.With the aid of Minitab analysis software,the problem was solved and the aim was successfully reached.This paper found that Six Sigma theory can be used to improve comprehensive qualified rate of dark chrome-plated plastic parts,reduce quality cost of enterprises,create profit space and promote satisfaction of customers.
