The quality of the fuel atomization directly affects the power,economy and emissions of the car.The macroscopic and microscopic characteristics are the two main aspects of the study of spray characteristics.In this paper,we use digital image processing technology and focus on studying the spray characteristics of the engine from the two macroscopic parameters of spray cone angle and penetration distance.First,the high-speed photography technology is used to capture and obtain the image of the spray oil beam,so as to provide reliable and real effective data for the research of this subject.Second,the spray oil beam images are processed by the image processing toolbox.In this paper we compare two methods of the histogram equalization and the contrast linear broadening in improving the images contrast.Finally,contrast linear broadening is used to improve the contrast of oil images.In the aspect of images filtering,the two filtering methods of mean filtering and median filtering are compared.Finally,the median filtering is better than the mean filtering in terms of noise removal.The binary segmentation method is proposed in the threshold segmentation.The results show that the binary segmentation method is more reliable and accurate than the Ostu and iterative method in protecting the integrity of the oil beam region.In the aspect of spray oil beam extraction,the morphological method is used to extract the oil beam boundary.The results show that the first-order differential operator and the second-order differential operator are not as good as the morphological method in terms of oil beam boundary continuity.Finally,this paper proposes a method of coordinate point to measure the spray cone angle and penetration distance,coupled with the traditional Hough transform and least squares straight line fitting.The three methods are compared with the manual measurement method by Photoshop.It is proved that the method of coordinate point is more in line with the actual situation of oil beam development in measuring macroscopic parameters.
