Research On The History Of Modern Protestant Architectures In Minnan

In the process of the introduction of Protestantism into Minnan in modern times,the hird-largest Missionary Societies of United Kingdom and the United States were the main missionaries in the early period.Then they divided each missionary area.By the 20 th century,it was transformed into the Minnan Regional Synod of C.C.C.(the Church of Christ in China).and entered into self-reliance missionary work.At that time,church construction activitie continued from cities in coastal developed areas to inland villages.As one of the most representative architectural types in modern architecture in Minnan,missionary architecture in Minnan is one of the important tangible cultural heritages In the background of multicultural.This paper studies the modern protestant architectures in Minnan.On the one hand,this paper supplements the study of modern architecture in Minnan by systematically collecting and sorting out the historical data of missionary architecture.On the other hand,this paper explores the evolution law of missionary architecture under the background of regionalization in Minnan through the study of the historical evolution,cultural connotation and architectural characteristics of modern missionary architecture,This paper takes Minnan protestant architectures as the research object.From the historical point of view,the development process of protestant architectures is divided into three periods.The first period was the early introduction period(1842-1862)when church of Western Transplantation Style were built during this time,which were mainly concentrated in Xiamen Island and its surrounding areas.The second period was the regional expansion period(1863-1899)when churches were built in large quantities and showed obvious Western transplantation style,which were concentrated in major river basins of missionary centers and their surrounding areas.The third period was the multivariate development period(1900-1951)when the style of protestant architectures reflects diversity with more participations of overseas Chinese in the sources of funds,which devotes more energy to the level of social services and built schools,hospitals,etc Overseas Chinese Funding.Combining with the characteristics of protestant architectures construction in different periods and concrete construction examples,this paper combs out the historical evolution law of the appearance style and plane type of protestant architectures.At the same time,it summarizes the characteristics of Protestant schools and hospitals in building site selection,plane function layout,single building appearance style and so on.Finally,this paper hopes to emphasize the historical significance of modern protestant architectures to arouse people's awareness of protection and contribute to the research and protection of protestant architectures in Minnan.
