Study On The Modern Christian Churches In Nanjing

The paper deals with Christian Churches in Nanjing area. The development of the churchnot only reflects the characteristics of the modern society in Nanjing, also recorded thetortuous history of the Nanjing cultural exchange between China and the West. So the study onthe church buildings in Nanjing is an important complement to study the development ofChinese Modern architecture. There still lacks the study specialized in the churches inNanjing，therefore，it is necessary and applicable to carry on the deep and systematic study onit.This dissertation firstly gives a detailed description in historical evolution，location andlayout, architectural features，design and construction, then divided the churches into severaltypes. On this basis, explore the characteristics of the Nanjing Modern Churches in the form ofconstruction, building materials and construction techniques. Finally, to further explore the useof architectural symbols in the church buildings and its cultural connotations, as well asreference for the design of today’s church building.This article is divided into five Parts:Chapter1. Through elucidating the purpose and significance of the subject, the ideas,contents and framework of research are put forward.Chapter2. To get a more complete historical background and development context,combing Christian activities in Nanjing since modern times in chronological order, andanalyze the distribution of the Christian Church in modern Nanjing.Chapter3. Divided the churches into several types by the Style type and the overalllayout, and discuss the factors that affect the architectural style of the Church of Nanjing.Chapter4. By analyze the instance of church buildings in Nanjing，the author give ashow of modern churches in Nanjing from the follow aspects: form of Plan; form of elevation;interior space; the ornaments.Chapter5. In order to obtain some experience and enlightenment,in this part the authoranalysis the features of church buildings in Nanjing in the aspects of Building and constructionpurpose, designers, design ideas, construction mode, structural technology as well as thedistinguished with some churches in other area of china.
