China has always adhered to the basic national policy centered on economic construction.Caused by the gathing of more talents, funds, resources and other factors in urban areas than in rural areas, the scale economies and the agglomeration economies effect bring higher-earing capacity and more job opportunities to the citizens rather than rural residents, making the increasing urban-rural income gap a major problem that has long plagued China's income distribution. The transportation infrastructure of highway has the highest degree of popularity in China and the public service it provided is the basis for direct production activities and the flow of various factors. On the one hand, the development of highway transportatn infrastructure contributes to accelerating the circulation of factors between cities and villages, shinking the urban-rural gap in economic development and increasing earing capacity job opportunities for rural residents. On the other hand,it can also speed up the circulation of factors in urban areas and provide much more convenience for citizens in increasing their income, thus posing a stern test to the urban-rural income gap which has been already great in China. Therefore,in the context of the rapid development of China's highway transportation infrastructure,it is of great significance and value to examine its impact on the urban-rural income gap.In view of this, based on the analysis of the development status of highway transportation infrastructure and urban-rural income gap in our country, this paper uses the literature analysis method, theoretical analysis method and quantitative analysis method to ascertain the relationship between the highway transportation infrastructure and urban-rural income gap and analyse the mechanism of how the highway transportation infrastructure influnces the urban-rural income gap.Meanwhile, the paper empirically tests their relationship by analysing the panel data of the provincial level in China from 2000 to 2017.At last, the corresponding policy recommendations are proposed based on the empirical results. The conclusions obtained indicate that the total density of grade highway has a significant negative effect on the urban-rural income gap.In terms of the grade highway, all grades except the first grade highway can significantly narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas, and the secondary grade highway road shows the best effect.Next, the paper uses the spatial econometrics for further analysing. The obtained values of Moran's and Geary's confirme the spatial correlation between the density of grade highway and the urban-rural income gap. Then the use of the spatial Dubin model shows the effects of various grades of highway density on the urban-rural income gap and analyses the the overall effect, direct effect and indirect effect further Considering the spatial effect,it shows that the density of highways of all grades will narrow the income gap between urban and rural areas and the impacts of high-speed and first-class highways are significant. The decomposition of total effects shows that the direct effect is greater than the indirect effect. In the last chapter, from the perspective of narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas,we put forward the corresponding policy recommendations based on the conclusions obtained above. It is necessary to focus on the building of highway transportation infrastructure and road transportation infrastructure,so as to accelerate factor mobility in multiple ways and put an important role in narrow the urban-rural income gap.
